Channing Tatum is circling Sony’s movie remake of 21 Jump Street, according to Deadline. Jonah Hill has already committed to star, based on a story he conceived with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs the World), and Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who co-directed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) are set to direct.

This could be really cool!!! I love Channing and 21 Jump street was my favorite show

This isn’t to be insulting, but 21 Jumpstreet was your FAVORITE show?! Like, better than any show you’ve ever seen since then? This movie is for you then. I think the show was more about teenage girls starring at a young Johnny Depp than any plot development.
She was probably a teenager when she watched it. What’s wrong with it being the favorite show of a teenager? Let us know what your favorite show was as a teenager so we can all judge you too.
I’m said i’m not trying to be insulting – i just didn’t understand the allure of 21 Jumpstreet let alone why they are remaking it. The plot is a little far-fetched and I cannot remember one episode. Doesn’t make me right or wrong. Lay off on the coffee, Chris
“was”, not “is”. But I’m sure she appreciates you letter her know she’d be interested in the movie.
OK – look i’m retracting everything i’ve said. Didn’t mean to ruffle feathers on the board. I’m sure it’ll be a wonderful movie.
But will he be on Glee?
lol. Touche.
Is this a movie or are they revamping the show? If it’s a movie it’d be bad ass to see Johnny Depp do a cameo but seeing as they’re casting Jonah Hill in here this looks like it’ll be a comedy.
Another remake? Where are the writers with original ideas? This didn’t work for The Dukes of Hazzard, Bewitched and countless others. Give up the remakes and get someone to WRITE something.
Just saw the tag movie biz.. that answers my question
Ugh, goodness no. They need someone charismatic, younger and I don’t know, can act. Channing Tatum couldn’t act his way out of a wet paper bag. Boo-hiss.
Jonah Hill? I’ll pass.
I’m skeptical that this will be any good. With Jonah Hill writing and starring, it will obviously be a comedy. And when was the last time that turning a TV drama into a cinema comedy actually worked? This is obviously another case of pasting a well-known (and fondly remembered) title onto a movie in order to sell extra tickets. (Another strategy that rarely seems to work.)
I have all seasons on dvd except for the last. Regardless of Johnny Depp being it the story lines were usually very good. They dealt with taboo issue for that time. Now it seems a cheesy and tame but then it was something. And if you ask my 17 year old daughter what her favorite show is her resounding response is 21 Jump Street.
I’m skeptical about Jonah Hill’s involvement, but that aside, this has the potential to be really good. If they do it right, they can make it so it’s not super cheesy and tame. A lot of bad stuff goes on in high schools right now (bomb scares, shootings, drugs, vicious bullying that drives kids to suicide, just to name a few), and if a police force had officers that looked young enough to enter high schools and mix with the students, I would think it’d be a good thing and not a too-far-out-there idea. Would also LOVE to see Johnny Depp make a cameo appearance
It would be even better to have both Johnny Depp AND Peter DeLuis.
First, I’m a guy and I was a teenager when this show was on and, at the time, it was absolutely one of my favorites. I own the DVD’s and still enjoy watching them and it has NOTHING to do with Depp. It was b/c it was a fun show. Period. Is it one of the greatest of all time? Of course not. But it wasn’t supposed to be. It was supposed to be escapist fun, which it was.
Second, the movie is being written has a hard-R COMEDY. It will likely be nothing like the original, but still sounds very good to me.
Third, Depp told EW earlier this year he would love to do a cameo. I have no idea if he’s been asked, but I can’t imagine the producers not giving it a shot, especially if he has expressed interest.
If Jonah Hill is going to be in it, it’s going to stink. He comes across as the most unfunny, bitter dude. I just don’t understand his popularity.
Channing Tatum. Cool. Another reason I won’t be watching. Thanks for making it easier for me not to tune in.
