The People’s Choice Awards announced their nominees today, and, not too surprisingly, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse scored the most nods, leading the pack with eight nominations. The film is up for Favorite Movie, Favorite Drama Movie, Favorite Movie Actor (Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), Favorite Movie Actress (Kristen Stewart), Favorite On Screen Team (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner), and Favorite Movie Star Under 25 (Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson).
Glee also picked up several nods, with five nominations for Favorite TV Comedy, Favorite TV Comedy Actress (Jane Lynch), Favorite TV Comedy Actor (Matthew Morrison), and Favorite TV Guest Stars (Britney Spears and Neil Patrick Harris). Other notable nominees: Vampire Diaries snagged nominations for Favorite TV Drama, Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, and Favorite TV Drama Actor (Ian Somerhalder), while Grey’s Anatomy picked up nods for Favorite TV Drama, Favorite TV Guest Star (Demi Lovato), Favorite TV Doctor (Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, and Ellen Pompeo). It’s nice to see these movies and tv shows get recognition because they have zero chance of getting any real awards and for good reason.
well, there are a few (very few) actual good movies and actors. these awards are huge ego boosters.
In my opinion, the divide between what critics like and what movie audiences like needs to decrease. I think something must be wrong with the way things are judged. I appreciate the People’s Choice awards because unlike the oscars, they give the awards to movies and actors that the people like.
Twilight, two and a half men, taylor swift… yep, americans are stupid
My sentiments exactly
It’s been confirmed… again.
Don’t put Taylor Swift and Twilight in the same sentence. T-Swift is a 4x GRAMMY award winner. The closest thing the Twilight gang has won to such a prestigious award is…a Teen choice award. Twilight is a low class movie made for idiotic tweens who don’t have the ability to think for themselves. The actors of Twilight can’t act, there 15 minutes of fame will be up soon. I know T-Swift has a bunch of idiotic tween fangirls as well but she also attracts a more mature crowd, being a singer-songwriter. It’s an insult to compare her to Twilight.
Taylor Swift got most of her awards because people pitied her after the Kanye incident. She should NEVER have won that Grammy and she proved it that night with her awful voice. All you people pandering to her and buying her records have now turned into a real life troll.
An article mentions Twilight, and once more there are endless comments and debates over the stupidity of it. I am interested in the taste of those people, since it seems to be far superior over everyone else’s. Critically, Eclipse was the best film of the franchise so far. And while it may not earn any major awards, it was not a terrible movie. There have been far more stupid movies than just this franchise. Kristen Stewart getting nominated individually, though? That is just ridiculous, she is a terrible actress.
It doesn’t have a prayer of getting any legitimate awards, so, eh. Let ‘em have it.
Twilight is popular? I had no idea. I never hear about it, especially on EW’s page.
I don’t think it is THAT popular. I think it has a large-but-not-huge cult following that stuffs the ballot boxes for “awards” like the People’s Choice and MTV Movie Awards and makes it seem like the franchise is bigger than it really is.
Knowing who was in their shortlist of nominees…Im a little bit sad that Kaley Cuoco didn’t get nominated or Kings of Leon.
But anyway, I’m rooting for Inception, Kick-Ass, Glee, The Big Bang Theory and Sandra Oh.
Oh and Emma Watson. How could I forget her.
The “People” have bad taste.
look at the full list, it isn’t THAT bad. Having said that, the People’s choice awards are useless and irrelevent considering we still have 2 months left of the year.
I guess EW saw fit to temper their earlier Twilight news with a little hater-baiting.
Pfft.
Fine.
Alice in Wonderland is in the drama category?
Also, I’m voting for Toy Story 3 for best film.
And The Social Network for best drama and Easy A for best comedy.
These awards mainly reflect the tastes of the gay community and housewives, who have become our defacto tastemakers, due to the apathy of the American male and the loss of funding for the arts in our schools. Art, including cinematic art, is no longer important to career-minded straight people….sad state of affairs.
Oh God…he’s back.
Go Vote for Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder!!
Most definitely!!!
Wait. Did the gays just get blamed for Twilight? I understand that some people think we invite the wrath of God… but Twilight is manmade punishment, created by a Mormon and fed by 14-year-old girls.
Blame us for tidal waves, floods, and Perez Hilton… but Twilight? That’s just rude!
We will take credit for True Blood, though.
Blake, that was awesome!
I’m glad Ellen Pompeo got some recognition!
What happened to Chris Colfer? He is definitely the heart and soul of Glee. Matthew Morrison is great but Chris is the star of the show. He is the best actor on that show seeing that he is new to hollywood and never acted in anything before the show. He is the best on that show and they are snubbing him big-time. He deserves better.
You re so right, I love him & Mike O’Malley!!! “They are Glee!!!!!”
Another thing, what happened to nominating Hayden Christensen finally after all these years of snubbing. I think he was wonderful in Takers and is very hot in it too.
