'Bones' spin-off episode delayed

The episode of Bones that will plant the seed for a potential spin-off is still a go, but production on it has been moved from December to early 2011, Fox confirms to EW. News of the delay was first reported by Michael Ausiello, whose source told him “creative reasons” were to blame. Fox would not comment on the cause of the schedule change, but Bones creator Hart Hanson did type a telling (and humorous) tweet on Nov. 4 that said, “I received studio notes on the Bones spin-off idea. They want it to be better. Unreasonable taskmasters. Impossible dreamers. Neo-platonists.” The episode will introduce tracker Walter Sherman, the central figure in “The Locator” novels by Richard Greener. In the books, Sherman is a Vietnam vet, but in the Bones world, Sherman will be a former military policeman who served in Iraq with Booth (David Boreanaz). Just as Booth didn’t originally get along with socially-challenged Brennan, he and Sherman — who suffered brain damage overseas that left him “skeptical of every statement” — will butt heads. Brennan, on the other hand, will be fascinated by him. Fox confirms the casting of Sherman is underway.

Ive watched Bones since the beginning and I like the characters, but the show hasnt been that good the last 2 seasons…I would think they would focus on putting out a better product than creating a spinoff

For me, “Bones” hasn’t been the same since they threw Zack under the bus. It’s been all downhill since then.

I absolutely agree. It was evident taht the writing on the show had declined. For me it was the episode after the one where Booth takes a bullet for Brennan where things started to go. From there, it seemed that Hart Hanson just seemed to focus the show mostly on the romantic angles and dragging things out, and then not delivering on potentially awesome storylines: ie – the coma/amnesia plotline, and then the essentially unbelievable gravedigger resolution – (Booth seeing ghosts- Brennan too) were not up to par. I still tune in, because this is a great cast, but unless the writing dramtically improves, I may finally end up cutting ties with a show that I’ve watched every episode of…

The House spinoff at least sounds fun and was different.

    This sounds like crap.

Note to Hart Hanson: While you’re making the spin-off better, can you make Bones better too! Definitely not impressed with the “Hannah” storyline at all.

ill wait to see it before i judge

Come on, Melanie, we can’t have such a reasonable comment on an entertainment news website!

I like watching the reruns on TNT, but Hart Hanson is not JJ Abrams or Sorkin or Whedon. Bones is a fun procedural. It’s not a good sign that he’s in the news defending and explaining so much of the show.

I wish you were still recapping Bones episodes!!

please get rid of hannah she is ruining my fav show

It seems very un-Boothy to butt heads with a guy who suffered brain damage while serving his country. Seems like the kind of guy Booth would bend over backwards to help/get along with.

I agree – until HH focuses on turning Bones back into the very good show it used to be, he shouldn’t be given a green light to do a spin off.

This episode must be really bad if they want it improved – given how bad all the episodes this season and most of last season have been.

Who’s going to trust Bones creator after the whole Gormagon and ‘the sex is real’ debacle?

  • Rosalie Digregorio

    I watch Bones on Channel 43 Comcast’s at 7PM.

  • Lia

I think that this spin-off will go about as far as the one for House’s P.I.

  • LYNN

Spinoff, can we say: Worst. Idea. EVER

  • Future mrs bieber

They should get Justin Bieber to guest star in Bones and lead the spin off. I’d watch it!

  • Dwayne

Creative reasons aka We can’t find someone great enough to lead the spin-off!
