Ignore it and it’ll go away.

    • C Men

Just don’t look. Just don’t look.

  • Rolo Tomasi

So let’s all stop referring to homosexuals as gay. Just refer to them as homos. I’m taking gay back along with porch monkey.

    • Gail

I can only hope this is you trying to be sarcastic…

      • Rolo Tomasi

        Nope

    • Tarc

      Wow, bigotry much?

      • Rolo Tomasi

        How so?

  • Roy Buckickingham

The phrase I want to tell this tool is Phuk Ewe

    • Darren

Wow Roy, the whole gay community is lucky to have someone so clever with words to represent them

  • Kel

This is the America we live in.PC.PC and more PC.all for the gays.

    • Gail

So tell me something ‘PC’ Kel; would you still find it acceptable if some other word were inserted in place of ‘gay’? Some racial or sexual or ethnic epithet perhaps? Somehow I doubt it!

      • Jerri

        That’s so Kel! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

      • OK

If he said electric cars are too girlie would anyone be offended?

    • Tarc

So says a self-entitled moron of the majority. Trouble is, no one really is – you;re just kidding yourself. It’d be hysterical too see you transformed into a gay black man for a month; you’d be crying like a little girl in five minutes flat.

      • C Men

What’s that have to do with a line said by a character in a movie?

      • OK

Arsenio Hall never seemed unhappy to me.

  • Gail

You really are a moron, Larry David.

  • Zombie Jesus

I take offense at the fact that homosexuals stole the word gay.

I was known as a gay(Happy)once. Then all of a sudden gay meant homosexual.

Well dammit Im taking it back.

    End Sarcasm

    • Gail

Because ‘homosexual’ is used a slur it has obtained a negative connotation for a lot of people; so much so that ‘homosexual’ or especially ‘homo’ makes many gay and straight people both cringe when they hear it. Therefore most people are far more comfortable with gay.

      • Rolo Tomasi

What isn’t a negative connotation then? I’m not gay so therefore I’m hetero, so why is homo offensive. Gay already had a meaning before it was used to refer to homosexuals.

  • TorontoTom

So, the haters are defending their right to be hurtful and offensive? When I read the comments (like that Larry David dude), I wonder – what is the pay off for you? Why is it so important to you to be able to hurt others? Do you have kids? When they come home and tell you they are being teased or bullied about who they are, do you laugh and tell them to get a sense of humor? Do you defend the bullies to your kids? Okay, so you don’t agree with GLAAD – is it really important to you to post a sarcastic, nasty (anonymous) comment? WHY? Why do you feel the need to do that? Really makes me wonder what you’re all about. (But instead of taking anything I said and considering it, I expect that some will fire back some homo-laced insult. Again, WHY?)

    • Rolo Tomasi

So you are upset that the car was being bullied?

    • Tarc

I think that karma is a wonderful thing.

    • teresa

Tom: I agree with you. Those who use the terms gay or retard are ignoramuses.

      • Rolo Tomasi

That makes sense. Thing is most people are born retarded.

      • Tarc

Rolo – like your replies. And completely false, too.

  • Megan

I love him and SingleDoctorDating was amazing and breathtaking

  • Tarc

I’m not much of a fan of GLADD, but they are completely correct on this issue.

    • Darren

Oh shut up Tarc, i’ve read your other posts on here and it’s obvious you’re a HUGE glaad fan! Which only proves just how much you lack credibility. EW: Stop allowing this 12 year old boy to post on your site!

    • CC

But Darren, if they stop allowing 12-year-olds to post, where will you go with your immature and ridiculous homophobic mindset?

    • Tag

The problem was presenting the joke in the movie’s trailer. Howard’s original statement was correct. In the context of the movie, the words were appropriate for Vaughn’s boneheaded character — just as GLAAD notes in “The Office” example. The same thing was true of a recent joke on “Community.” Pierce constantly makes inappropriate remarks to everyone, so it was in character for him to call Uggs “Gay boots.” The remark made him look stupid, and the other characters rolled their eyes and blew him off. The trailer for Howard’s film does not set up that context, so the joke appears to be at the expense of gay people when it is actually intended to reflect badly on Vaughn’s character. Howard is a smart guy, but he needs to cut his own trailers.

    • Tarc

LOL! Darren – if you bash adults like this, I can imaging how you love to bash kids. Oh, that’s right, you already thought you were! Please take your own advice.

  • jake

We are talking about the word Gay, not the derogatory term F**. I will agree to an extent that it should not be in a trailer, but for them to push for them to remove it from the movie is insanity. The use of the word is not representative of the actors or the writers or the directors — it is representative of the ignorance of the character.

    • Tarc

Actually, this kind of ridiculous homophobic garbage is written into nearly all ‘comedies’ these days. And to be honest, there are all kinds of ways to make a joke, but this is an example of something that’s hurtful, not comedic. The fact that Howard and Vaughn just don’t get it underscores the need to continue the dialog.

      • Rolo Tomasi

So it’s hurtful to call a car gay? Words have more than one meaning. Gay actually meant something else before it was used to refer to homosexuals. Don’t like it, pick another word.

  • teresa

    You are an idiot.

    • teresa

      and so is Ellen

  • Joel

This whole issue is ridiculous. How did Ron Howard become the fall guy? In my youth I saw movies like History Of The World Pt. 1 and Blazing Saddles that poked fun. I laughed and yet, somehow I grew up to not be a homophobe. If someone’s teenager goes out and bullies a homosexual I asssure you that it’s not because Vince Vaughn said the word gay in a movie trailer.

  • teresa

Why are so many people okay with this?? It’s not okay. It’s not okay to say retard either, but I bet most of the posters on here think that’s okay too. You are all ignorant.

    • OK

Why is it bad to use the word retard, but OK to use the word idiot? Just asking.

  • Marcus

The more I hear about this, the less I care. The joke is stupid, they can include it if they want to, I wasn’t going to see it either way (and neither was anyone else with taste, probably).

  • Paige

I say let’s wait and see the movie. Maybe the character who calls electric cars “gay” is a complete douche. A douche would use that word indiscriminately so it would be within reason to develop the character.
