Lily Allen was rushed to an English hospital on Friday night with a potentially fatal blood-poisoning condition called septicaemia, according to U.K.’s Daily Mail. If left untreated, the bacterial blood condition can develop into septic shock. The emergency took place just days after the singer lost her baby in a miscarriage — her second in three years. Allen’s publicist told the Daily Mail that Allen is “responding well” and “continues to improve.”

My wife and I suffered a miscarriage recently and she has no “history of drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and heavy smoking”. Sometimes bad things just happen to good people, and those same good people shouldn’t have to listen to people like you.

Perhaps Lily Allen’s miscarriage was caused by an infection, which has now gotten worse. Back in the 1990s, I knew a man whose pregnant wife died of septicemia. She contracted a strep infection from a child at the day care center where she worked and it was misdiagnosed as flu. By the time she went to the ER, she was in septic shock and it was too late to save either mother or baby. No drug abuse was involved. Whatever the cause, Lily Allen’s miscarriage and illness are terribly unfortunate and I wish her the best.
The actress Gene Tierney was pregnant contracted rubella from meeting an infected fan who sneaked out of quarantine just to meet her. Now although she did not miscarry, her child was born very prematurely with numerous birth defects.

Jo, I heard about that, too. Gene’s daughter Daria’s mind supposedly never went beyond the level of an infant. She spent most of her life in institutions. I wonder if that fan ever knew about the consequences of her selfish action?

Anyway, yes, the fan did know what her actions led to, and she went up to Gene at a tennis party and told her what happened. She just silently stared at the fan and walked away.

You really have no idea what Lily Allen’s *actually* done or how she’s lead her life (only the exaggerated reports of a media biased by the need to titilate). Further, she’s YOUNG,a nd if you knew anything about biology, you’d know that the BPA in her waterbottles is more likely to have been an issue than any past chemical use. I’m confused. Where is food poisoning mentioned? People do NOT get septicemia from food poisoning. As for the septicemia and miscarriage, they may be related, with one causing the other, or they could be unrelated and Lily is a very unfortunate woman. And her personal habits may have caused it or may not have..no one can say for sure. Everything here is pure speculation, with a little bit of judgement and /or bias mixed in.
Sorry I misread the article and read blood poisoning as food poisoning. I still don’t see why some people have to be so judgmental each time a tragedy like this occurs. When you have lived a life with no mistakes ever, then you can dump on others and infer that they deserve what they get. It’s just all so mean spirited and doesn’t bode well for the future of our race.
JUST SAYIN: i understand that it’s easier to attack a troubled celeb on an anonymous board than it is to spend five minutes googling information, but the fact that lily allen is hospitalized for septicaemia makes it pretty obvious her miscarriage was a septic miscarriage, which is the most common late-term miscarriage. it is caused by the womb’s lining becoming infected, which kills the baby. the lining then disintegrates and goes into the blood stream of the mother. if the mother is not treated quickly, she goes into SIRS, a form of septic infection, which results in up to 60% patient death. we can only hope that ms allen was taken to the hospital fast enough, and she is receiving the best medical care possible, because despite your passive aggressive attempts to blame this on her (rumored) drug and alcohol abuse, she’s a 25 year old woman with a family that loves her.

Hope so, too. I don’t want her to end up like Marilyn Monroe did – she too had multiple miscarriages.
It seems that this miscarriage was induced by the blood poisoning, and not through the fault of Lily’s biological functions. So hopefully, she is able to carry a child to full term and should she choose to become pregnant again, she’ll have to be monitored very closely. Sophia Loren had multiple miscarriages, until a medical breakthrough by a Swiss doctor allowed her to carry her babies to term. She had to remain on bedrest for those pregnancies. Mind you, this was in the 60s and Sophia was in her mid to late 30s when she had her children. The odds against her were much higher. Thankfully, Lily is young and medicine is much more advanced, so she has a chance.

Septicemia is a systemic infection in the blood that results in death if left untreated. You do no develop septicemia by having any type of drug or alcohol abuse history. It is more than likely related to the recent loss of her child, who was nearly full term. The entire situation is a tragedy and is not brought on by any type of past history involving drugs, alcohol, or being immature. She needs prayers for the difficult time in her life, not wild guesses and criticism. What a bunch of asses!
Agreed. You absolutely do not contract septicemia that way. I contracted this after the birth of my son and was fortunate enough to have it diagnosed quickly before having to be hospitalized. The doctor said one more day, and it could have been life threatening. I can not imagine what she must be going through first losing her child then having to sit in the hospital as a constant reminder.

Well, that’s not totally true. You can get bacteremia from shared needles, but that would have to be a current habit and not just a history of it.

Than maybe its time to start encouraging those at the church who do things like blame a miscarriage on drugs, spit on pregnant teens, and throw eggs at people visiting abortion clinics to change their ways. There are ways to convey a message (religious or not) without being hurtful. take active steps to clean up your own house.

You didnt read my comment properly. I was saying SOME, probably a very small minority are guilty of those things i listed. And sadly for me, they are all things i know of happening to people i know, done by christians (i know they are christians, not just assuming). The same way i dont think all muslims are terrorists, i dont think all christians are horrible. I have many close friends who are religious, though i am not myself. Poor Lily. Two miscarriages (one 6 months into the pregnancy, which means she probably knew the sex and had a name chosen and everything…possibly even a baby shower)…and now this. I really hope she can recover from this. It won’t be easy.

I wish her the best. Me and my wife went through two miscarriages on our way to our two children and it’s something I’d wish on no one. To possibly lose your life immediately after is bad on top of miserable. It’s tragic no matter who it happens to.
