'Criminal Minds' spinoff changes showrunner

Executive producer and showrunner Chris Mundy has left CBS’ upcoming Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, according to Variety. Current Criminal Minds showrunner and executive producer Ed Bernero will take over for Mundy and therefore be in charge of running both programs. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which is slated to debut next year, will star Forest Whitaker, Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly, Beau Garrett, Kirsten Vangsness, and Janeane Garofalo as a new profiling team within the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Injured 'Transformers' extra sues Paramount

An extra who was badly hurt on the set of Transformers 3 is suing Paramount for negligence in connection with the Sept. 1 accident that left her with severe head injuries. Gabriela Cedillo, 24, claims that the studio is responsible for the incident, in which a metal cable fell through the window of her car during an action sequence. “We are all terribly sorry that this accident occurred,” said a Paramount spokesperson in a statement. “Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with Gabriela, her family and loved ones.  The production will continue to provide all the help we can to Gabriela and her family during this difficult time.” Transformers 3 is slated for release on July 1, 2011.

'Warehouse 13' renewed for third season

Syfy has renewed Warehouse 13 for a 13-episode third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Executive producer/showrunner Jack Kenny (Titus, The Book of Daniel) also signed a development deal with the network. Warehouse 13 stars Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly as a pair of government agents who investigate fantastical mysteries. It was the most-watched TV series on Syfy this year.

Ford, 'Amazing Race' producers team up for sponsored series

The producers of The Amazing Race will launch a new reality contest web series next year, according to Variety. The show, sponsored by Ford, will feature six two-person teams as they race cross-country, competing for $100,000. “Focus Rally” will be a showcase for Ford’s sedan and is part of the company’s product integration strategy. The show will appear on Hulu and other sites, and viewers will be eligible to win cars themselves.

Producer Ben Silverman partners with Sofia Vergara for new comedy

According to Deadline, Ben Silverman will stake his return to network television on a comedy based on the popular single-camera Spanish comedy Aquí no hay quien viva (“I Hate This Place”) that ran from 2003 to 2006. ABC is said to be close to picking up the series, set in an apartment building managed by an old-school father and his more-modern son. Silverman will executive produce with Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara.

Lil Wayne moved to solitary confinement at Rikers Island

Lil Wayne was relocated today to a “punitive segregation” cell at Rikers Island, where he is currently serving a one-year sentence for a weapons conviction, according to multiple outlets.  The 28-year-old Grammy-winning rapper received this punishment—which is the equivalent of solitary confinement and requires him to be in his cell 23 hours a day—after guards discovered headphones and a charger for a MP3 player in his cell back in May. A representative for Lil Wayne did not immediately respond to EW.com’s request for comment. Lil Wayne is scheduled to be released on Nov. 4.

John McTiernan keeps 'Shrapnel' job (Exclusive)

Despite being sentenced today to 12 months in prison for perjury and false statements, John McTiernan, who will remain free on bail during an appeal process, remains slated to direct Shrapnel, an action film about two war veterans who end up hunting each other for sport. “He’s [still] the director of the film,” says the film’s producer Anthony Rhulen (The Butterfly Effect). “I’m told that his appeal process will allow plenty of time to get this made.” A finished script is expected next week, according to Rhulen, and production could begin soon after the new year.

Susan Boyle cancels 'Dancing With the Stars' appearance

ABC has confirmed to EW.com the cancellation of Susan Boyle’s appearance on tomorrow night’s Dancing With the Stars results show. A replacement musical guest for the 9 p.m. results show on Tuesday, Oct. 5 has yet to be announced. According to Extra TV, a severe throat infection has rendered Boyle unable to fly from her hometown in Scotland.

Director John McTiernan sentenced to jail

Director John McTiernan (Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October) was sentenced to 12 months in prison for his participation in a wiretapping scandal. McTiernan had initially pleaded guilty in July to giving false statements to investigators about his involvement with Anthony Pellicano, a Hollywood private investigator now serving 15 years for racketeering, conspiracy and wiretapping. Federal prosecutors maintained that McTiernan hired Pellicano to investigate producer Charles Roven (The Dark Knight). According to Variety, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer also assessed a $100,000 fine against the director, who was released on bond appending an appeal. His attorney, Oliver Diaz, called the prosecution “overzealous.”

Danny DeVito accepts Golden Icon for Michael Douglas

Danny DeVito accepted the Zurich Film Festival’s Golden Icon Award for Michael Douglas, who’s undergoing treatment for throat cancer. Douglas’s film, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, was screened at the festival on Sunday. “Michael is so strong,” says DeVito, who costarred with Douglas in films like Romancing the Stone and The War of the Roses. “He gets better and better with every movie he makes. So that’s why I tell him to work more.”
