A Michigan couple convicted of attempting to extort $680,000 from actor John Stamos were both sentenced to four years in prison on Friday, according to the Associated Press. Allison Coss, 24, and Scott Sippola, 31, were convicted in July of conspiracy and using e-mail to threaten a person’s reputation after threatening to sell old photos of Stamos with strippers and cocaine to the tabloids unless he paid them to keep quiet. The FBI said the photos did not exist. Stamos reportedly met Coss in Orlando, Fla., in 2004 when she was 17 years old, shortly after separating from his wife, model-turned-actress Rebecca Romijn. Coss testified that Stamos snorted cocaine, sat nude in a hot tub with the teenager, and made sexual advances. Stamos denied her account, calling the couple’s allegations “reprehensible” in a statement. “The defendants’ strategy consisted of lying and inventing stories at trial in a bid to confuse and incite the jury,” the Full House star, 47, wrote. “I was forced to watch [Coss] slander me at trial with impunity while the press reported their fabricated allegations.”

Prosecutors won't charge Russell Brand in paparazzo run-in
Prosecutors have told People they will not charge Russell Brand for his run-in with a paparazzo at Los Angeles International Airport last month. Brand will, however, attend a hearing Nov. 19 with the cameraman, who made a citizen’s arrest by booking Brand on suspicion of battery. (Brand allegedly shoved the paparazzo, who was taking pictures of the comedian and his fiancé, Katy Perry.) Neither party are looking to press charges against one another.
Max Weinberg's heart surgery not why he didn't do 'Conan,' says rep
A rep for Max Weinberg — Conan O’Brien’s former drummer and band leader — tells EW that recent headlines indicating the musician did not join O’Brien for his upcoming late night show, Conan, because of recent heart surgery are false. Instead, Weinberg’s rep defers to Weinberg’s comments about his departure released in a statement late last month: “17 years — a lifetime on TV … I thank them for their first-rate work on the bandstand. I wish Conan and his show the best and I do look forward to dropping by.” An interview in Fancast reported that Weinberg’s health problem — he had open heart surgery in February — influenced his decision to not follow O’Brien to TBS. Subsequent headlines off that interview (“Max Weinberg Won’t Join ‘Conan’ As a Result of Heart Surgery, Report Says,” “Max Weinberg: ‘Massive’ open-heart surgery forced me to step down from Conan O’Brien’s new show“) indicated that the heart surgery was what pushed the drummer into that decision.

Toni Braxton files for bankruptcy
Singer Toni Braxton, who had a string of chart-topping R&B hits in the 1990s including “Un-Break My Heart” and “You’re Makin’ Me High,” has filed for bankruptcy, according to Reuters. Court papers list Braxton’s assets as ranging from $1 million to $10 million and her debts ranging from $10 million to $50 million. This is Braxton’s second bankruptcy filing; her first was in 1998, following a split with her record label. Over the course of her career, Braxton has sold some 40 million records and won six Grammy awards. Her most recent release, Pulse, debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard charts last May, but sales of the album quickly flagged.

'Dora the Explorer' voice actress files lawsuit against Nickelodeon
Caitlin Sanchez, the 14-year-old actress who had voiced Dora the Explorer on the Nickelodeon hit show since 2007, has filed a lawsuit against the network. In the suit, Sanchez and her parents claim they were pressed to sign an overly complex contract, and that the actress was underpaid for her work.
Nickelodeon has released the following statement: “The claims being made are baseless. Unfortunately, Caitlin’s voice changed and she was no longer able to portray the Dora character, as happened with the actress who originated the role. Caitlin’s contract was extensively negotiated through her agent and in compliance with her union. She was well-compensated for her work and for personal appearances. We have enjoyed working with Caitlin on Dora the Explorer these past three years, and we did in fact offer her a contract for other work with us.”
