'Transformers 3' producers cleared of penalties for accident

More than one month after an extra was injured after a tow cable snapped on the set of Transformers 3, the Indiana Occupation Safety and Health Administration have decided the blockbuster movie’s producers will not be charged with any wrongdoing, Variety reports.

IOSHA rep Marc Lotter says the Sept. 1 accident was, “due to the failure of a weld connecting a car to a tow cable.” And that “the weld was made by a certified welder and all necessary safety precautions were in place.” No penalties or fines will be issued.

Bruce Davis to retire from Academy

Bruce Davis, executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced that he’ll be retiring next June, after nearly 30 years years with the powerful organization that presents the Oscars. Davis joined the Academy staff in 1981 before becoming its seventh executive director in 1989. An Academy spokesperson confirmed the news, first reported yesterday by Deadline.com.

Sam Rockwell joins Jonah Hill on 'The Sitter'

Sam Rockwell (Iron Man 2) will play a villainous drug dealer in the comedy, The Sitter, currently in production in New York City. A publicist for the actor confirmed the news initially reported by TheWrap. David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) is directing and Jonah Hill plays a college layabout who gets shackled with babysitting the neighbor’s kids during a catastrophic night where everything goes wrong.

CBS buys Robert DeNiro crime drama

Robert DeNiro and crime writer Richard Price have sold a police drama script to CBS called Rookies, which follows a team of six new officers who are sent into high-crime areas, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Price and DeNiro worked together on the film Mad Dog & Glory, but Price is known best in television for his work on The Wire.

E! and Bunim-Murray to produce docu-series about rock stars' wives

E! has ordered eight episodes of a series about rock stars’ wives, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bunim-Murray Productions’ docu-series Married to Rock will star three wives and one longtime girlfriend of rockers: Susan Holmes McKagan, wife of former Guns N’ Roses and Jane’s Addiction bassist Duff McKagan; Etty Farrell, wife of Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell; Josie Stevens, wife of Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens; and AJ Celi, three-year girlfriend of guitarist Billy Duffy of the Cult. The show premieres at 10:30 p.m. Nov. 7.

Intruder arrested outside Paris Hilton's home

A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon at Paris Hilton’s L.A. home for allegedly riding his bicycle past a security checkpoint and then proceeding to bang on the socialite’s door, according to the Los Angeles Times. Security guards made a citizen’s arrest, and the suspect was later booked at a Van Nuys police station on suspicion of battery against a guard. This is the second time in recent months that an intruder has made his way to Hilton’s gated residence. In August, a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with burglary after attempting to break into Hilton’s house.

Howard Jacobson wins Booker Prize for 'The Finkler Question'

British author Howard Jacobson won the 2010 Man Booker Prize on Tuesday for his philosophical comedy The Finkler Question, the AP reports. The $80,000 prize is given annually to a British or Irish writer for a novel released that year. Jacobson won over Peter Carey’s Parrot and Olivier in America, Emma Donoghue’s Room, Damon Galgut’s In a Strange Room, Andrea Levy’s The Long Song, and Tom McCarthy’s C. Last year’s recipient was Hilary Mantel for Wolf Hall.

Monday TV Ratings: 'Dancing With the Stars' dominates

ABC’s Dancing With the Stars drew Monday’s biggest audience with 19.8 million viewers, according to overnight ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ Two and a Half Men may have followed with 13.2 million but won the ad-favored 18-49 demo with a 4.3 rating/10 share. The alphabet network claimed the third spot with Castle nabbing 12.1 million viewers, while CBS rounded out the top-five with two of its more successful new series, Mike & Molly with 10.8 million viewers and Hawaii Five-0 with 10.5 million.

Christina Aguilera splits with husband

Christina Aguilera has separated from her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman. A source told People that though the couple has split, there are no divorce proceedings at this moment. Aguilera and Bratman have one child, Max, 2. They wed in Napa Valley in November of 2005. Aguilera released the following statement via her rep: “Although Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever.”

Controversial 'Dilemma' trailer in theaters until Friday

The new trailer for Universal’s The Dilemma will begin showing in theaters this Friday, Oct. 15. Currently viewable online, the new trailer does not include a clip of Vince Vaughn’s character using the term “gay” as a put-down. The original trailer, which caused a stir after CNN’s Anderson Cooper and others criticized the pejorative use of the word, will continue to be shown in movie theaters until Friday, according to a Universal spokesperson.
