The producers of the Hilary Swank movie Conviction, the new movie that tells the story of the woman who spends years of her life proving that her imprisoned brother (Sam Rockwell) is innocent of murder, responded to public complaints from the family of the real-life murder victim. In a statement, the producers said, “We have the deepest compassion and sympathy for the family of Katharina Brow and would like to arrange a private screening for Melrose and Charlie Brow. This will no doubt answer many of their questions surrounding the unthinkable and horrific tragedy that befell their mother.”
On Thursday, the Brows and their lawyer, Gloria Allred, held a press conference where they criticized the filmmakers for not reaching out to their family before making the movie.

'The Dilemma': GLAAD responds to Vince Vaughn's statement regarding trailer controversy
In the wake of Vince Vaughn’s first public statement about the controversial “gay” joke featured in the trailer for his upcoming film The Dilemma, Jarrett Barrios, the president of GLAAD (The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) released the following response late Thursday evening to EW: “When ‘gay’ is used as a pejorative, it frequently sends a message — particularly to youth and their bullies — that being gay is wrong and something to laugh at. We invite Vince Vaughn to work with us and help ensure that gay youth and those perceived to be gay aren’t put in harm’s way by such jokes.”

(The news was first reported by New York Magazine.) Paramount Pictures hasn’t yet confirmed that it is making a Top Gun sequel.
A source with knowledge of the situation tells EW that Cruise’s 1980s flyboy character Maverick would likely be the main character in any script McQuarrie writes for a sequel. McQuarrie’s rep would not comment on that claim.

Vince Vaughn breaks silence on 'The Dilemma' controversy
Vince Vaughn issued a statement to Deadline regarding the controversy surrounding the trailer for The Dilemma, which came under fire for featuring a joke that called electric cars “gay.” Said Vaughn, “Let me add my voice of support to the people outraged by the bullying and persecution of people for their differences, whatever those differences may be. Comedy and joking about our differences breaks tension and brings us together. Drawing divided lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop.”

Family upset by Hilary Swank's 'Conviction'
The family of the woman whose 1980 murder is the basis for the new Hilary Swank film, Conviction, publicly criticized the Oscar winner and the film’s other producers for not consulting with them prior to making the movie, according to Reuters. Representatives for Swank and Fox Searchlight have not yet responded to requests for comment.
