Katy Perry and Russell Brand get married

Comedian Russell Brand, 35, married pop singer Katy Perry, 25, in a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony at a luxury resort in India Saturday night. Joining Brand and Perry for the procession were two elephants named Laxmi and Mala. “Mala is a bit skittish and hates crowds, but she managed to behave herself,” a source confirmed. [People]

You know, that Katy Perry is really gorgeous, and Russell Brand seems like a fine, upstanding individual. I wish them all the best in the future.

    • Larry David

Hahahahaha, I just came here to say the same thing. Best wishes, happy new wedded couple!

    • Larry David

^ I kid, I kid. Just giving you a bit of the ol’ ‘Larry David’ schtick. I’m a new man now and have accepted the fact that I’m a fat loser with nothing better to do then troll here. Having said that, I couldn’t be happier for the couple!

    • Larry David

Sorry guys, I’m having some trouble adjusting to my new meds.

    • Larry David

Stop it. Stop stealing my name! It’s not fair that you always pick on me when I’m always so thoughtful on kind. Bully someone your own size.

    • MrsDolly

I give them 32 years at the most.

    • LD

You give them TWO years???!!! More like less than a year.

  • Dave

    • JC’s lover

I think you are at the wrong website, fleshbag.

  • joblo

Hindu? I guess Katy truly has left her Christian faith then.

    • mary q contrary

my guess is that because they can’t legally get married in India, they’ll do some sort of Christian ceremony in England or the US, if they haven’t already.

      • ani

why can’t they legally marry in india?

marriages in india are legally binding and recognized by all governments, you understand? they are overseen by priests and you don’t have to be hindu to have one.

    • Chris

Just in case her music and videos didn’t give that away already.

      • TM

Oh brother! Hindus in Indian music and movies are much more “Christian” by that kind of standard that most of the people who thank Jesus at the VMAs.

    • JC’s lover

I’m so glad you’re sitting around worrying about her eternal soul. Guess what? Despite what Huey Lewis and the News have to say about it, it’s not hip to be square.

      • Liz

        90’s reference fail.

      • wtf

90’s???? more like 80’s. Sorry Liz you fail..lol

    • whatevs

Katy Perry was never a Christian, what are you talking about?

      • Dave

Umm, yes she was. Her father was a pastor. She even released a gospel/Christian rock album a few years before she became famous.

    • Rush

That sort of happened when she kissed a girl and liked it.

  • Jackie

Although I’m happy for them, I don’t think this marriage will survive 3 years. He seems like a dope.

    • Gabby

Agreed. And Perry seems like the type of person to jump into things (like marriage) too quickly. Hopefully we’re wrong, though. :-)

    • Nate

      I say two years.

    • JC’s lover

You seem really happy. That’s great.

    • bootsycolumbia

Actually, Jackie, Russell Brand is quite well educated and articulate. I was pleasantly surprised to find this out during an interview with Jimmy Kimmell, when he referenced the British poets Byron and Shelley during a hilarious monologue. Katie’s a lucky girl and I wish them well.

  • WTF

what can push a pastor’s daughter to get married in India by a Hindu priest?feel sorry for her parents what a disgrace!anyway its not gonna last…

    • jmcg

If that pastor is a loving and caring father and accepting of other religions, he will support his daughter.

    • TM

Plenty of pastors would indeed understand that his or her daughter is free to make her own adult choices and support her. And plenty of clergy do interfaith work.

    • JC’s lover

Thanks for sharing your intolerance and bigotry. WTF, NPR just called; you’re fired.

      • JenR

Hee hee! I’m going to use “NPR called” all the time now.

    • Benoreno

My friends’ daughter is about Katy’s age. She died in a car accident this morning. There’ll be no wedding planning in their future. They’ll be making plans to bury their only daughter. They’re a Christian couple and I’m sure they’d rather attend their daughter’s Hindu wedding ceremony instead of planning her funeral. Sometimes I read the comments on this board and I shake my head. Today, my heart is filled with sorrow for my friends’ loss. Big picture, guys.

      • bootsycolumbia

My condolences on your and your friends’ loss. I agree with you about the big picture. I wish more people would actually be accepting instead of just talking about acceptance.

    • petuniafromhell

huh…people who were raised in all kinds of religions, when they marry, they choose to do only a legal ceremony. There is no disgrace there, is it? You jerk.

    • wtf

hey F****R, don’t use my name to spout crap like that..freaking myth believing bible thumping imbecile.

      • WTFTOO

It’s not like you invented the term WTF (Why The Face, right? That’s what Phil Dunphy said). I’m sure it was just a coincidence, they didn’t know they were using “your” name. Some people don’t spend all their time on these boards.

    • kikipania

Excuse me but they were married by Katie’s Christain minister from her church growing up!!!!

  • Kel

How very Christian of you Katy Perry. maybe you should get ride of the Jesus tat and get a elephant.

    • Anna

Oh STFU with the sanctimonious, “That’s not very CHRISTIAN of you, Katy!” comments.

      • Kel

wth? are you talking about Anna?

    • Tab

All together now, “Onward Christian bigots….”

      • +1

    • TM

The dumbest thing about all this b.s. about how “unchristian” she is is that the comments are just that. The Gospels made it clear that Christ wasn’t a fan of obnoxious zealots.

  • Scott

This is a perfect “sign of the times” moment: A mediocre singer marries an unfunny comedian. Perfect! It’s not newsworthy but…it IS newsworthy because it’s perfectly representative of the mediocre times in which we live, when just about anyone can be a “celebrity,” no matter how untalented they are. Thank God for publications like EW who are constantly force-feeding us these absolute nobodies in an attempt to keep the entertainment hype machine going. Gotta sell some product, you know? EW wouldn’t have anything to report on if they only focused on people with actual talent, after all, since there’s only so many of them around.

Please now, EW, please get back to telling me what Snookie is doing today. Now THAT’S a talent…or are her 15 minutes up?

    • AK

It’s just a news brief, all of three sentences long. Calm down.

      • valentina

Scott:: so why are you on this website, clicking on the story and then writing a post?
I like Katy Perry but I still give the marriage a year tops!! bets of luck though…I could be wrong

    • tzhoney

Then stop reading it dumb a$$, and taking the time to write as much as you did. I so do not get people like you.

    • JC’s lover

      Cool story, bro.

    • Shecky

Of course Russell’s a fairly unfunny “comedian” and of course Katy’s the “flavor of the month” as far as pop tarts go. Will either one of them ever be considered “great” in their respective fields. HIGHLY doubtful. But so what? The world of entertainment is and always has been chock-full of people who didn’t deserve NEARLY the attention the public and the media gave them. I mean, if we were just looking for talent, Adam Sandler would still be working at Burger King! So forget the idea of them being untalented as being relevant. The fact is that they are…(cough, sputter)…..”in love”…..(laugh, sputter, laugh again) and they plan to live their lives together “’til death do us part.'” Or at least until Thanksgiving, according to Vegas oddsmakers. So can’t you just be happy for them? And hey, if nothing else, at least this gets them both off the streets (especially Russell). That’s gotta be good, right?

      • bootsycolumbia

You don’t know what will happen in 20 years or so. Seriously, when Madonna started her career in the early 80s, there were a lot of naysayers who said she’d be a one or two hit wonder who’d then fade into obscurity. Who knows where Katie Perry or Russell Brand be in two decades.

  • Courtney

Can we just take a second to appreciate how Annie manages to make a relatively lame story super entertaining?

    • Brenda Barrett

Umm, “talented” Annie lifted this virtually word for word from a People magazine writer, as she cites in parentheses. Sheesh.

      • Courtney

This may be, but she still chose the best parts of that article to include.

  • shirice

yaaayyyy!!! I’m soooo happy for them! They’re such a beautiful couple.

  • Desmo

If it’s not a Christian wedding, then they’re really aren’t marry.. They’re breaking God’s law

    • Damien

      Christian bigots run ramped here.

      • jodipo

        yes they do

      • bootsycolumbia

        They also run rampant.

      • Jen

So do idiots who can’t use idioms properly. Run ramped? Really?

    • TM

Actually, by your logic, a Hindu marriage would be stronger than a Christian one because Hindus have multiple gods or manifestations of a god.

    • JC’s lover

They should get married properly – by a child raping priest. That’s the only way to observe the law of your mythical deity.

    • Jennifer

Dang, so my Jewish wedding wasn’t binding?

  • Slezak

    18 months tops

    • JC’s lover

That’s what I said about your mom and dad, and they beat the odds. Too bad they both died of CancerAids.

      • Dave

CancerAids? Is this some new superillness!?! Cancer and AIDS have joined forces to become CANCERAIDS!!!

  • Chappel

I like Katy Perry and I hope this works out for her but I can’t help but think that her new hubby is going to be out looking for fresh meat as soon as the honeymoon is over.

  • Voice of Reason

Won’t last 18 months. Another hollywood joke along the lines of the kardashians, lohans and snooki.

  • Helena

8 months, thats how long it will last

  • Kim Girard

I am very happy for both of them. I wish them both the best!
