A woman who says her 15-year-old daughter appeared without permission on an episode of The Tyra Banks Show about “teen sex addicts” is suing the TV host for $3 million, the Associated Press reports. Beverly McClendon is asking a court to stop the episode from airing again, and for millions in damages since it already “was undoubtedly watched by sexual deviants, perverts and pedophiles.” A representative for Banks declined to comment on this story.

I’d be surprised this didn’t happen more often but most parents of teens that appear on these types of shows are just as bad, if not worse.

How are the people on the show exploiting the girl? This is a television show. They clearly would have legal forms and waivers to sign. It’s obvious that either the mom did know about this, or the daughter forged signatures.

her staff doesn’t need to verify it, as long as there is a signature on the form they are legally protected. If it’s not real, the person who submitted the waiver is held liable.
wrong, under the age of 17 a signature on a contract is not legally binding so the tyra bancks show would have had to get a Consent and Release form signed by a parent or guardian. That could be the mother OR the father, doesn’t have to be both – or a legal guardian. Maybe daddy signed it? I think their legal department knows this and since Tyra was a professional as a minor (started her career at about 14?) I think she knows the process well.
Any person should know the standards for going on a show. Her daughter can’t leave out of state unless she knew and cant appear on a show without the mothers permission. not tyras fault the mom just wants money. Millions is uncaLLED FOR. I doubt it’s as simple as a permission slip or phone call for verification. The release would have been legalized (or at the least, notarized), and since she was a minor, there was most likely a requirement that a parent be there during filming.

Let’s think about it for a second. Celebrities and people in general are sued because losing money hurts much more than to being admonished. They can care less if they are scolded by a judge or whoever, but the second they are fined, they will think twice about doing it again.

No teenager should even be allowed on her show without a parent or legal guardian. Its smart business sense, it protects your show and its damage control. I think its sad that parents are so bad now a days that we dont pay attention to our children but as soon as they are looked at in the wrong way its somebody else’s fault not our own. Im a single mother and its my job to guide my children in the right direction not only with words but actions as well and also understanding this mother sure as heck doesnt have a good relationship with her daughter and that why she is upset because she found out through the Tyra show what her child was up to.
