Report: Angelina Jolie film booted from Bosnia

Filed under: Movies, News and tagged: ,

Angelina Jolie’s plans to shoot part of her directorial debut in Bosnia have been scuttled by Bosnian authorities, according to AFP. The untitled film, about a Serbian man and Bosnian women who fall in love in the middle of the Bosnian war in the mid-1990s, apparently offended local officials. “They no longer have the authorization to shoot in Bosnia,” the country’s Culture Minister is quoted as saying on Bosnian radio. “They will have it if they send us the scenario with a story which will be different from what we have been told by people who read it.”

They can film that anywhere. No loss.

    I say, good for them!

  • LOL

They haven’t even READ IT?! Why am I not surprised…

    • Ina

Its because she wanted to tell a story how a Bosnian woman, who is a victim of war rape, ends up in love with her rapist (The opposition is from the Rape Vicitim Groups (which say that it is an unrealistic portrayal, since majority of the vicitms were very young girls, and they were all mass raped by soldiers carrying out genocide) and International Organizations)

why you are coreect it dose involve the rap of these young women that is not what outrages this Bosnian official it’s the fact that the women of Bosnian decent falls in love with a Serbian man understand the war and the plight of these people and you would know this

If the story line is as you say, Ina, it’s not surprising the Bosnian authorities balked at letting her shoot there. A perfectly good love story about a couple from opposite sides need not have included rape to be viable, but I suppose she needed something with more impact as her first effort.

The movie is not about a Bosnian woman who is raped and falls in love with her captor. Those are rumors.

The real reason the they can not film in Bosnia is because the movie script was not attached to the application to film in the country.

  • Reina

I thought it would be a modern Romeo & Juliet…but it’s probabely too controversial…too bad, because most anything that Brad and Angie touch turns into gold.

  • Celia

Oh well. I’m sure they will figure something else out. Filmmakers shoot in other places than their movie is set all the time.

  • amy

i see nothing wrong with a love story is fiction a movie too bad if they donot want them to shoot in their country is their loss

  • Petie

They can film anywhere and I am sure this will be a deep love story and an Oscar winning Directorial performance—Good for Jolie

  • Spasan

Well people, I am from Bosnia, been there during the war and I can tell first hand that terrible things happened. And you don`t know what been in the war means. What I know about this movie is that is VARY

    • LW

I am sorry for what you and your countrymen had to endure. This sounds like a horribly disrepectful plot and should not be made anywhere. I wish you and yours the best.

VERY controversial. story is about a muslim girl being raped by serbian soldier who cuts her breast of and after a while she falls in love with him. WHAT THE HELL! What kind of sick mind you have to be to write a story like that. Of course they banned her movie. That is a perfectly natural thing to do.

    • jshabazz

Agreed “spasan”~~~~~I am sick of amerikand and very tired of angelina jolie~~~she better not do cleopatra(this woman is spazzed out). i’ll be throwin eggs at the screen~~~~

      • jack sprat

jshabazz: Cleopatra was Greek. In any case, Egyptians then weren’t Arabs, much less Muslim Arabs, so get over it.

      • kyle

jshabazz – since you’re sick of America, why comment on an American made movie on an American entertainment site? I’m sick of people saying they’re sick of America, yet they’re standing in line to see our movies, listening to our music, and commenting on our internet sites. And, has anyone actually done any research to find out who wrote this movie? Jolie is the director, but all the actors are from the region, and it very well could have been written by a Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian writer.

    • Georgia

I agree with you. Anyone re-enacting such violence for sensational oohing and aaahhing in a movie theatre (and let’s not forget these are oscar nominated type films) should be not only banned from a country but from every cinema as well. A movie should be just that! Not an exploited trauma that will bring back nothing but horrific memories for the victims who endured it.

    • Barbara Whitney

This is a crazy method to make friends.. Angelenia wouldn’t want her children to watch something so horriffic… so why should she push her stuff on someone else’s children

    • jiamo germain sr

All of you who are against Angie are Ignorant about that Movie is the Bosnia Gov. to be against of not Angie because this is the real story ever tells that the Gov. of Bosnia and some of he’s others allies don’t want the world to now about the truth in that Movie is only Angie that know that truth and they are afraid to be set for justice that mean to be punish and you folks don’t see that Bosnian or Muslim or Bosnia Muslim don’t like the truth to be reveal i pray HALAH forgives them because HALAH is the truth and lies is not Halah

      • Voodoo

        say what???

  • KG

Thank God, some “Third World Countries” still instill Religion, Morals and Values, in saying that, it may not be the film or actors in it,in my opinion, it’s the moral standing they see in Jolie that is objectionable! Seriously, we here in America have so many raunchy films, use of swearing, addictions, sex, exploitation of women, children and animals, showing the man is still empowered and in most films, women are subserviant to man! This needs to be changed! We need good wholesome films with actors that are indeed morally upstanding and can truly act!

  • susan davis

Stop reacting to the headline – it should have read “(Storyline) booted from Bosnia” — and not the actress, as of course, she wasn’t booted personally. Such sensationalism and bad journalism.

    • molly

Whatever. It was worth the laugh to read this headline.

  • Faye

    Shoot it in Detroit…lol.

  • j

They’re just afraid she’s going to start stealing their kids too.

  • observer

Good for them. Skank Jolie should be booted from a lot of places.

    • jack sprat

observer: You and the Donald are in agreement. Maybe the two of you should come out of that closet TOGETHER.
