GLAAD urges Universal to pull controversial 'Dilemma' trailer from theaters

Tags: , Movies

A new online trailer for the upcoming comedy, The Dilemma, does not include a scene where Vince Vaughn’s character uses the term “gay” as an insult, but GLAAD claims that the original trailer with the offensive clip is still playing in movie theaters. In addition, it is unclear whether the scene, in which Vaughn attempts to clarify his use of the term of “gay” by essentially equating it with the word, “pathetic,” will appear in the finished film, which is slated for release on Jan. 14.

I say if a boy car wants to sleep with a boy car Vince should keep his mouth shut and not call them gay it just hurts to many cars feelings!!!!!

I saw this trailer in an AMC theater this weekend… As a gay man, I am disgusted that this insult still exists, particularly promoting the usage in a movie, making it seem ok for everyday vernacular. However, it did make me happy that not one person in the theater laughed at any point in the trailer.

I am sure they didn’t laugh cause the movie isn’t funny not because Vince called a car gay. Just keep flagging the flames(no pun intended)

I’m gay and I really could care less. How is this a big deal?

    • Travis

Because using “gay” in a derogatory sense to mean “pathetic” (as referenced above) is the basis for why we are fighting for civil rights. If gay is pathetic, then it justifies to society that we are second class citizens. You can feel however you feel, but you asked what the big deal was.

    Writers… studios… investors… theaters…. advertising… etc. All hanging from the same treat.
Controversy usually suggest bad movie. I know this just by watching TV. Can I get a job now?

Stop your whining. I have red hair, I don’t cry when I hear the about “beaten like a red headed stepchild” First of all, gay was already a word before it was used for homosexuals, so create a new word you want to call yourselves.

    • Travis

Maybe if someone actually beat you for being red headed, it would.

Good point T J. I am blond and get the “dumb blond” thing all the time, but you don’t see me whining and forming a community to stop the public from exploiting blonds as dumb.
