Natalie Portman has dropped out of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the film based on the best-selling Jane Austen-meets-the-undead novel. As New York Magazine‘s Vulture blog hinted, scheduling conflicts were a cause of her departure, though her production company will remain involved in the project.

Maybe Portman finally read the book and realized the joke goes flat after the first few pages. The writing is insipid; it’s a nice conversation starter but actually reading that mess is another thing. It was written mostly to be a joke, not an actual piece of literature, and only 15 percent of what’s written is actually new, the rest is straight out of the original book, with “zombie” added in every few pages. I’d rather watch and adaptation of “Yeast Lords”.
Bummer! I was really looking forward to Natalie as a Regency era, ass-kicking, zombie-killing spinster! And I thought the book was a hoot! A classic summer read that had me laughing out loud and raised the eyebrows of all who saw that hilarious cover. It’s not literature, it’s a McNovel. And a wonderful one at that. Everything a light summer read SHOULD be. And using Austen’s prose to juxtapose the zombie killing just tickled me and everyone I knew who read it.
… i’m actually a bit happy about this news, to be honest. I loved the book but only see Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett. No one else can play Lizzie except for her!
Keira Knightly and Natalie Portman look like they could be sisters.
yeah Keira Knightly played Natalie Portman’s character’s decoy in Star Wars Episode 1… yeah I’m not a nerd….
I hated that version. The only version that is worth a damn is the 1995 BBC Production starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.
amen to that! No one can replace Firth and Ehle
smart move, natalie, very smart move indeed.
Knightly played Portman’s double in one of the Star Wars prequels
I meant Portman’s decoy
wasnt that rose byrne?
It was Rose Byrne
Thank god. That book was awful. I love Zombies and I love P&P, but that book was painful to read. I never could finish.
I can’t deny Portman’s a great actress, but I think she got that lead just because she looks like Keira Knightley. And yes, I do love Keira as Lizzy Bennet, yet I still love the ’95 version. Portman gets on my nerves sometimes, so don’t mind me cheering a bit here.
Looks like this is when she found out she was pregnant.
I am sooooo excited, i loved this book and its prequel dawn of the dreadfuls and i’m looking forward to the third book, dreadfully ever after, i cant wait for the movie to come out, its sad to see portman gone, but with a baby on the way, she will be busy…..
