Fresh off reports that he was in the running to direct the upcoming Superman reboot (that gig went to Zack Synder), Darren Aronofsky is now in talks to helm Wolverine 2 for 20th Century Fox, according to Vulture. He is reportedly choosing between this movie, the sequel to last year’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Warner Bros.’ Tales From the Gangster Squad, a 1940s LAPD cops-and-robbers drama, as his next directorial project.

Who would wanna sully their name with that mess of a franchise?
Exactly. I really really hope this isn’t true. He’s so much better than this.
KM – what’s the deal? Nolan took over after the horrid Batman 1-4, and look how that turned out? If you were an actual fan not a fanboy you would see thing as a GOOD THING. He is a very talented director with ties to Hugh Jackman.
Oh and get off the hate for the first film – that was SO last year…. people like it now…..
I guess if anybody could make a decent Wolverine move, it would be Aronofsky. It just sounds weird though, doesn’t fit in with his portfolio of movies.
And newsflash: Wolverine:Origins was HORRIBLE. Was last year, still is now.
Meso Soup, I think you mean the horrid Batman 3 & 4. The Tim Burton Batman movies were awesome.
agreed…1 and 2 were great! Somehow they get lumped into the nonsense known as 3 and 4 because of that “era” of the franchise. Same applies to how I liked the second Hulk movie over the first. Different director = different vision.
Was Ang Lee not available?
Do Gangster Squad Darren… there’s only so much one can do with Wolverine.
Let this die. After the garbage they came out in Wolv 1, they should stop. Had a rich cannon of history/stories of 30 years to pull from and they had to create something new and craptacular just because Hugh wanted to do something with his name stamped on it.
What a waste of talent.
Fox has ruined all of their superhero franchises.
Why won’t anyone stop this? Seriously. Forget the fact that it basically has nothing to do with X-Men comics other than names and such. It’s just all so terrible. The ghost of Jack Kirby needs haunt the set, thus making it impossible for the movies to cause further pain to us all.
there is nothing redeeming about Wolverine. he would be wise to not do this film….unless he was allowed to have an R rating and have a little blood in the film.
Isn’t it time to “reboot” the “Wolverine” franchise and cast a younger actor, to appeal to teenagers? And, in that movie, will Wolverine sparkle in the sunlight?
..and cast a proper Wolverine? Jackman was/is too much of a “hunk” for the character. They need a 5 foot tall actor built like a hairy fire-hydrant to do it proper.
I always thought that Scott Caan had the physical profile of Wolverine. It’s too bad Hollywood can’t just let an action star be short. Even Tom Cruise has spent his career trying to create the illusion that he is taller than he is…
Now that you mention him… yes, Scott Caan would make a good “young” Wolverine. But seriously, they should just stop.
Love Aronofsky, but couldn’t care less about the Wolverine franchise (not a huge X-Men fan either). I really hope he doesn’t waste his time with this and moves on to something more original.
Loved Requiem for a Dream, Pi was over my head. I really think he’s a great director and hope he can make wolverine worth watching; but you know, rub all you want, you can’t polish a turd.
Best line ever
I heard that if he doesn’t take it they are going to hire Michael Bay and his vision of Wolverine will shoot rockets out of his hand instead of claws. Also, to appeal to the kiddies after Wolvie kills somebody he will say “My bad.” …….. Well that’s what i heard.
How depressing to think that Aronofsky would even consider a “Wolverine” sequel. Pray that it doesn’t come to pass.
Will it be a sequel or a prequel? I’d like to see it take place after X-men 3.
Aronofsky is one of the most talented and unique directors in the business. If anyone could make the sequel to Wolverine the best film in the X-Men franchise, it would be him. The man is so talented that either film would be a good choice, however I’d be more intrigued to see his take on Tales From the Gangster Squad.
Wolverine 2? That’s about as necessary as another 20 pounds on Rosie O’Donnell.
