Big Kenny Alphin, of country duo Big & Rich, and wife Christiev have adopted a son, Dakota Jefferson Holiday Alphin. People reports the adoption took place in July. “When they put Dakota in our arms, he has the most beautiful smile, and the moment Kenny started talking to him, Dakota lunged towards him,” Christiev told the magazine. “We both looked at each other and it was like, ‘Of course he is our son.’” Dakota joins older brother Lincoln William, 4.

Morgan Freeman and his now ex-wife, Myrna Colley-Lee, have finalized their divorce after a Tallahatchie County judge filed a decree Sept. 15, the Associated Press reports. The couple, who had been married 26 years, had separated back in December 2007. Divorce papers were first filed in July 2008.
Jimmy Fallon joins 'That's a Record' pilot
Late Night host Jimmy Fallon is behind That’s a Record, a new gameshow pilot for NBC, reports Variety. The show, hosted by G4′s Chris Hardwick, is based on the Universal Record Database. Fallon’s incorporation of bizarre URDB.org stunts into Late Night inspired the That’s a Record pilot, which shot on Thursday. Hardwick (a.k.a. The Nerdist) hosts Web Soup for G4 and is a regular contributor to Attack of the Show.
'40-Year-Old Virgin' actor found guilty of attempted murder
Actor Shelley Malil (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) was found guilty of attempted murder on Thursday for stabbing his girlfriend more than 20 times in 2008, People reports. Malil claimed he accidentally stabbed Kendra Beebe in her San Marcos, Calif., home, mistaking her for an attacker in the dark. Witnesses testified that the two had an argument at the beach the day before the stabbing.
The actor’s lawyer argued for attempted voluntary manslaughter, not murder, saying his client acted in the heat of passion when he arrived at Beebe’s home and found her in the backyard with another man.
Malil will be sentenced on Nov. 18 and faces 21 years to life in prison.
'American Beauty' producer, 'Pushing Daisies' creator teaming for a big screen 'Pinocchio'
Oscar-winning American Beauty producer Dan Jinks has tapped Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller to a pen a script for a new film version of Pinocchio for Warner Bros., Daily Variety reports. No director or timetable has been set for the film. Jinks, who produced Fuller’s cult fave TV series, tells Variety that he was inspired by director Tim Burton’s success this year with Alice In Wonderland.
'The Real Housewives of New York City' star Alex McCord to write second book
The Real Housewives of New York City star Alex McCord will write a second book with her husband Simon van Kempen, her rep confirmed to EW. The couple’s first book, Little Kids, Big City, was published in April 2010 by Sterling & Ross Publishers. Of the subject matter of the second book, McCord has said: “It will be about what goes on in relationships, particularly our relationship. We talk in a very snarky, irreverent way about the things that have happened to Simon and I over the last 11 years.”
Michael Jackson's mother files suit against concert promoter AEG Live
Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, has filed a lawsuit against concert promoters AEG Live in connection with the singer’s death last year, according to the Associated Press. The complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court accuses AEG of failing to meet its obligations to adequately safeguard Jackson’s health as he prepared for a planned series of comeback concerts and claims that the company is liable for the actions of Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death. “On this day my family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against AEG,” Jackson’s brother Randy wrote on his Twitter account. “I am proud of my family.” The suit, which was also filed on behalf of Jackson’s three children, is seeking unspecified damages.
'West Side Story' on Broadway to close
The producers behind Broadway’s West Side Story announced via press release that the musical would stage its final performance Jan. 2, 2011. Before then, however, the West Side Story revival will boast the distinction of being the longest-running incarnation of the show, playing 732 performances as of Dec. 20, 2010. By the time it closes, West Side Story would have played 748 shows.
