Randy and Evi Quaid facing residential burglary charges

Categories:

The Associated Press reports Randy Quaid and wife Evi are facing burglary charges after they were reported living in the guest house of their old home illegally. The property owner informed the Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputy Saturday, and when officials arrived at the home, the Quaids claimed they had owned the residence for nearly 20 years. When the owner, however, showed police records that indicated a client had purchased the home in Santa Barbara, Calif., three years ago, and that the Quaids were responsible for more than $5,000 in damage in the guest home, authorities arrested the couple for felony residential burglary and entering a non-commercial building without consent.

Randy Quaid’s lawyer said the following to EW: “This was a civil matter being handled by Mr. and Ms. Quaid’s civil lawyers in Los Angeles…We will address the issues in court if a criminal case is filed.”

This is their second run-in with the law in the past year — the Quaids were on the run from authorities last September when they were charged with not paying a $10,000+ bill at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, Calif.

Letterman writer claimed host knew about Joaquin Phoenix hoax

Categories: Movie Biz, Movies

Though he recently revealed that most of his Joaquin Phoenix-centric documentary I’m Still Here was fake, Casey Affleck has said that only he, Phoenix, and Phoenix’s agent were aware of the hoax. But an interview from last year with Late Show with David Letterman writer Bill Scheft has resurfaced, and it claims otherwise. Said Scheft to the independent newspaper Nuvo, “Dave knew about it, and Dave loved it because he could play along…It was great television.”

Scheft also claimed he was met with backlash when he attempted to reveal that the events were staged. “I’ve told people that [everyone is in on the joke], and not only don’t people believe me, they tell me that I’m wrong and that [Phoenix] is a schizophrenic and he needs help and he’s going to end up like his brother [River, who died of a drug overdose in 1993]. I said no. I saw the segment notes. It’s an act. I saw Ben Affleck’s brother taping the whole thing from offstage.”

Lindsay Lohan admits she failed drug test

Categories:

Lindsay Lohan has admitted that she failed her court-ordered drug test via her Twitter page. One day after reports surfaced that she had tested positive for drugs, the actress tweeted a string of admissions, starting with, “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge [Elden] Fox next wee as a result.” (Elden had informed Lohan in late August that the actress could return to jail if she fails one of her post-rehab tests.) Lohan continued, “Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn’t go away over night. I am working hard to overcome it and am taking positive steps.”

The actress also claims on her page that she’s continuing to test “every day.” “This was certainly a setback for me but I am taking responsibility for my actions and I’m prepared to face the consequences,” she wrote. And after thanking her family for their support, she reached out to other well-wishers, “I am a work in progress, just as anyone else. I am keeping my faith, and I am hopeful…Thank you all!!!”

The Associated Press reports Paris Hilton has avoided jail time, thanks to a plea deal. The socialite will also avoid a felony conviction stemming from her drug-related arrest in Las Vegas on Aug. 28. Clark County District Attorney David Roger told the AP that Hilton will plead guilty in court Monday to two misdemeanors: drug possession and obstructing an officer. She will serve probation for one year, complete a drug abuse program and 200 hours of community service, and pay a $2,000 fine.

Hilton was arrested in the Wynn resort in August when police found 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse. At the time, the reality star told police the purse and drugs were not hers.

Andy-WhitfieldImage Credit: ireImageSpartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield will not be returning to the second season of the Starz series, the network announced today via press release. The actor, who was in remission after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in March, has been advised to resume “aggressive treatment” for the disease. “It’s with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved,” Whitfield said in the release. “It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey. Thank you for the support so far.”

The series had delayed production in the spring while Whitfield underwent treatment; the actor had been training for the second season after he was declared cancer-free in June. At this point, the network has not made any decisions regarding the series’ future. “Right now, we just want to extend our concern and support to Andy and his family,” Starz Media’s Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik said in the statement. “We will address our programming plans at some later date.” Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, a prequel to the series, will still air as scheduled in January 2011.
