Eddie Fisher dies at 82
Image Credit: Popperfoto/Getty ImagesPop idol Eddie Fisher died on Wednesday due to complications from a recent hip surgery, his family announced on Thursday. He was 82. Fisher, father to actress Carrie Fisher, was one of the most successful pop singers of the 1950s. In addition to chart-topping hits, like “Thinking of You,” “Walking Behind You,” and “Oh! My Pa-Pa,” Fisher also had the TV variety show Coke Time with Eddie Fisher and The Eddie Fisher Show. He fell out of the spotlight with the advent of rock’n'roll, though he continued to record well into the 1960s.
Fisher was married five times. He had two children, Carrie and Todd, with his first wife, actress-singer Debbie Reynolds, whom he famously left for second wife Elizabeth Taylor. Carrie Fisher has compared her parents’ messy divorce and father’s re-marriage to Taylor to the modern-day Jennifer Aniston-Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie saga. Fisher was also married to actress Connie Stevens, with whom he had two more children, actresses Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher. His fourth marriage, at 47, was to 21-year-old beauty queen, Terry Richard. It ended after 10 months. His fifth (and longest) marriage was to Betty Lin, a Chinese-born businesswoman. She died in 2001.

Bryan Singer and McG sign on to produce two new multi-platform digital series
Warner Premiere, a division of Warner Bros. that specializes in creating content for digital platforms, announced it is developing two new multi-platform digital series with directors Bryan Singer and McG. Singer, whose films include The Usual Suspects, the first two X-Men films, and Superman Returns, will produce H+, an episodic science-fiction tale set in a futuristic world in which an implanted computer system allows a person’s mind to be connected directly to the Internet at all times. Stewart Hendler (Sorority Row) will direct. McG, the director of Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation, will produce a teenage action thriller called Aim High about a high school sophomore who has a double life as a secret government agent. Aim High will be directed by Thor Freudenthal (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). Both series are in pre-production and scheduled to begin filming by the end of this year.
Bret Michaels to undergo heart surgery
Poison frontman Bret Michaels will undergo surgery in January to repair a defect in his heart, his rep confirms with EW. This surgery is just the latest in a string of medical issues Michaels has dealt with this year. In April, the rocker had an emergency appendectomy, followed by a brain hemorrhage. In May he was hospitalized again with a “warning stroke.” Michaels then announced on his official website his doctors had discovered a hole in his heart, also known as Patent Foramen Ovale. The scheduled surgery will attempt to repair the PFO. His rep is unsure of the recovery time, but said Michaels should be able to promote his autobiography Roses & Thorns: The Reality of My Rock & Roll Fantasy, due out March 15.

Responding to reports claiming that actress Rooney Mara has injured her shoulder on the set of the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and production is delayed, a rep for Sony tells EW, “This is 100 percent fabrication.
