Categories:

Paris Hilton and Hallmark have settled a lawsuit filed by the socialite, who claimed the company stole a scene from her reality show The Simple Life for a greeting card. (The card apparently included a pun on Hilton’s trademark phrase, “That’s hot.”) The suit was filed in 2007. The case, which made its way to the Court of Appeals last year, was set to go to trial in December, even though Hallmark at first argued free speech should allow them to sell the card.

Categories:

Lindsay Lohan posted bail and left a Los Angeles jail late Friday night, the Los Angeles Times reports. The actress was taken into custody on the morning of Sept. 24 for violating the terms of her probation stemming from a 2007 conviction for driving under the influence. The judge had denied her bail, but later that same afternoon another judge granted her a writ of habeas corpus and set bail for $300,000 following an appeal by her lawyer. Lohan left jail shortly before midnight Pacific time. She is due back in court on Oct. 22. The Mean Girls star used her Twitter account on Sept. 17 to express regret for the circumstances that led to her brief incarceration–she had reportedly failed a drug test–but she has yet to Tweet anything about her release. There has been some speculation that her Tweets about the matter played a role in her being sent to jail.

Lindsay Lohan going back to jail

Lindsay-Lohan-jailImage Credit: David McNew/Getty ImagesA judge in a California court this morning ordered Lindsay Lohan to jail where she will be held without bail until Oct. 22, when a formal probation hearing will take place. Judge Elden Fox revoked Lohan’s probation at a hearing this morning, held because Lohan tested positive for drugs, a violation of the terms of her probation stemming from a 2007 drunken driving conviction.

Lohan was handcuffed in court and taken away.

Last week Lohan tweeted, “Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result.” The actress spent 23 days in a court-ordered drug rehab program last month, following a 13-day jail stint ordered for a previous probation violation.

Judge Fox had the option of granting bail, which would have allowed Lohan to remain free until the formal hearing, but she instead opted to remand the actress to immediate custody with no possibility of bail until the Oct. 22 hearing, “Ms. Lohan cannot be released early because this isn’t a jail sentence,” L.A. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told People. “She’s being held by court order until her hearing on Oct. 22. She will be held in the same conditions as her last stay, in a keep-away unit.”

UPDATE: Later on Friday, reports surfaced that another judge ruled favorably on actress’ attorney’s appeal; this would allow Lohan to post bail, which was set at $300,000, and leave jail.

UPDATE NO. 2: Lindsay Lohan posts bail, leaves jail late Friday night in Los Angeles.
