Reuters reports Mike Edwards, cellist and founding member of the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), was killed Friday when a bale of hay crashed into his van. Edwards, who was 62 years old, was in Devon, southern England, when the hay rolled down a hill into his vehicle. (Authorities also believe he swerved into another car on the road.) Edwards played with ELO from 1972 until 1975.

Charges dropped in Travolta extortion case
A judge in the Bahamas has dropped charges against two people accused of attempting to extort $25 million from John Travolta, the Associated Press reports. Pleasant Bridgewater and Tarino Lightbourne were charged with trying to release information about the 2009 death of Travolta and wife Kelly Preston’s 16-year-old son, Jett. The judge dismissed the case after prosecutor Neil Braithwaite submitted a motion on behalf of the actor to drop the charges. “The Travolta family has said that this matter has caused them unbelievable stress and pain and they wish to put this whole thing behind them,” Braithwaite said.
Court papers claim Teresa Giudice hid book advance when filing for bankruptcy
In court papers obtained by EW dated Sept. 2, lawyer Roberta A. DeAngelis accuses Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Guidice and her husband of failing to disclose a book advance when filing for bankruptcy in October. The papers claim Guidice received a $250,000 advance from Hyperion for her cookbook, Skinny Italian, and did not reveal the asset in their petition. The papers also claim the Guidices did not disclose their ownership of TG Fabulicious, the Bravo star’s online boutique.
The couple is currently facing $11 million in debt.

'Top Chef' winner Harold Dieterle weds
Harold Dieterle, the winner of the first season of Top Chef, married girlfriend Meredith Lynn Davies Saturday, People reports. The couple wed in Atlanta — Davies’ hometown — in front of other Top Chef alums, like Lee Anne Wong and Stephen Asprinio. Dieterle and Davies met at the Aspen, Colo., Food & Wine Classic.
Political cartoonist Paul Conrad dead
The Associated Press reports political cartoonist Paul Conrad has passed away. The three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning Conrad — who spent his career ribbing the likes of Harry S. Truman and George W. Bush — died in his Los Angeles home Saturday. He was 86 years old.
Conrad was also well-known for frequently targeting Richard Nixon in his work, which famously landed him on the former president’s enemies list.
Comedian Robert Schimmel dead

Schimmel, who frequently appeared on The Howard Stern Show, was in his daughter’s car Aug. 26 when she lost control and crashed. (She is in stable condition.) The comedian — a cancer survivor whose raunchy style helped sell books like Cancer on $5 a Day (Chemo Not Included): How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life — was 60 years old.

Man accused of attempted burglary at Paris Hilton's home pleads not guilty
A knife-wielding man who was arrested outside Paris Hilton’s home Aug. 24 has pleaded not guilty to attempted felony burglary, the Associated Press reports. Nathan Lee Parada appeared in court in Los Angeles Friday to enter the plea. The suspect is still in jail, having yet paid his $50,000 bail. He will return to court Sept. 15. Hilton tweeted about the incident during the arrest. The heiress and reality star was taken into custody herself in Las Vegas just four days later on suspicion of cocaine possession.
Taylor Lautner's RV suit settled
Taylor Lautner has settled his $300,000 lawsuit with Irvine, Calif.’s McMahon RV, the Associated Press reports. The Twilight actor filed the suit Monday, claiming McMahon failed to deliver a 2006 Affinity County Coach to the set of his upcoming movie Abduction in time for filming. Lautner’s lawyer said the dealership agreed to pay $40,000 to Lautner, who plans to donate the sum to children’s charity Lollipop Theater Network.
Howard Stern says he may leave Sirius XM
Howard Stern said he “pretty sure” he will leave satellite radio at the end of the year after his five-year, $500 million contact from Sirius XM ends. He hinted that he’s considering alternate Internet formats, though it could be an opening move in negotiations with the satellite radio company as it looks to extend his contract. Court rules Eminem owed royalties by Universal; Universal to fight ruling
The Wrap is reporting that the U.S. Court of Appeals has overturned a lower court decision and ruled that Eminem’s music publishing company is owed royalties by Universal Music Group for songs downloaded through iTunes and as cellphone ringtones. An attorney for UMG said the company would file for a new hearing. The final decision could have greater implications as other artists attempt to get a bigger share of digital downloads.
