According to Extra, TV host Mario Lopez and his girlfriend actress Courtney Mazza welcomed Gia Francesca Lopez into the world on Saturday in Burbank, CA. The couple met in 2008 while performing together on Broadway in A Chorus Line.

French New Wave director Claude Chabrol dies

According to Reuters, legendary French director Claude Chabrol has died at the age of 80 in Paris. Chabrol, along with his New Wave compatriots Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut, helped revolutionize French cinema at the end of the 1950s. Both prolific and popular, Chabrol made over sixty films, often psychological thrillers, during his long career. His 1970 movie The Butcher is one of two films that Alfred Hitchcock said he wished he’d made.

Petey Pablo arrested

Officials tell the AP that rapper Petey Pablo has been arrested at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina on gun charges. Pablo (ne Moses Barrett III), 37 — known best for his songs “Raise Up” and “Freek-a-Leek” — was arrested this morning after TSA agents found a gun in the his carry-on luggage. He was charged with being a felon with a gun and carrying a concealed, stolen weapon.

Sofia Coppola's 'Somewhere' wins at Venice Film Festival

The Lost in Translation writer/director was awarded the coveted Golden Lion award on Saturday for her new film Somewhere (Dec. 22). The film stars Stephen Dorff, playing a Hollywood actor pickled by the corrosive effects of fame and booze who must decide whether there is room in his empty life for his 11-year-old estranged daughter (Elle Fanning). Coppola won an Oscar for her Lost in Translation screenplay.

Spaniard Alex de la Iglesia won directing honors for his horror movie Balada Triste de Trompeta (The Last Circus). Vincent Gallo took home the Best Actor prize for his wordless performance as a suspected Taliban fighter in Essential Killing, but did not take the stage to accept his award. Ariane Labed won Best Actress for her performance in the Greek film Attenberg.

'Dragon Tattoo' star Noomi Rapace cast in 'Sherlock Holmes 2'

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Swedish star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has landed her first English-speaking role. She nabbed the female lead in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes 2, alongside Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Details of her character remain a secret, though the rumor is she’ll be playing a French Gypsy. The Warner Bros. production is slated to begin later this year.

Leonardo DiCaprio gets restraining order against woman who believes she's his wife

A woman who thinks she’s Leonardo DiCaprio’s wife and that she’s pregnant with his child was ordered by a Los Angeles court to stay away from the actor for three years. The new order extends a temporary order that was issued in August. Livia Bistriceanu of Chicago has sent him letters and traveled twice to Los Angeles to meet him. DiCaprio wrote in a statement to the court that he’d never met the woman and that her behavior was “obsessive and harassing.” [Reuters]

Danica McKellar gives birth to baby boy

Former Wonder Years star Danica McKellar delivered a baby boy Tuesday, People reports. Draco Verta is the first child for McKellar and husband Mike Verta. The actress and best-selling author told People she named her son after the Draco constellation. “We are humbled, overjoyed, and so grateful for this miraculous gift…It’s like we’ve only now just learned the true meaning of love,” McKellar said.

'Y Tu Mama Tambien' duo join Will Ferrell in Spanish-language comedy

Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luno, the duo who starred together in the Oscar-nominated Y tu mama tambien, have joined the cast of Casa de mi padre, the Spanish-language comedy that is set to star Will Ferrell, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The movie’s storyline is being kept quiet, but it will all unfold in a dramatic telenovela style with English subtitles. Also joining the cast are Genesis Rodriguez, Pedro Armendariz Jr., Hector Jimenez, and Adrian Martinez.

Alamo Drafthouse launches film distribution company with 'Four Lions'

Alamo Drafthouse, a burgeoning cinema company that has expanded out of a much-loved movie theater in Austin, Texas, announced it is expanding its brand by launching a film distribution arm, Drafthouse Films. The company’s first film will be Four Lions, a satirical black comedy about a group of bumbling would-be Islamic terrorists that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Drafthouse Films plans to release Four Lions this fall in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin and expand wider in the following weeks.
