Sally Menke, the 56-year-old film editor of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, was found dead Tuesday morning in a Beachwood Canyon ravine in Los Angeles. The LA Times reports that Menke had gone hiking on Monday, when Los Angeles was wilting under an extreme heat wave, with her dog (who survived). No cause of death has yet been reported.

RIP. Wow. That’s awful. If it was heat related- or even if it wasn’t- just…that’s terrible. RIP.
This makes me sad. The “Hi Sally”s on the DVDs will be impossible to watch now. If you don’t know what I mean, check out Inglorious Basterds’ extras. It WAS hilarious. RIP
That’s the first thing I did when I heard about it. I checked out the one from Death Proof too… so sad.
That’s so sad. I’m assuming her dog didn’t make it either.
It says right up there that the dog survived.
This is one of the most upsetting celebrity deaths in a long time. She was the best film editor out there right now and I can’t imagine Tarantino without her.
@ Fatima:
IMHO, the best film editor out there is another woman: Thelma Schoonmaker.
Regardless, this is very sad news. Rest in peace, dear Sally. Quentin’s films have an uphill road ahead of them now, no question.
Gosh, that’s sad. I agree with Andrea, the ‘Hi Sally’s will be heartbreaking now.
I hope her dog made it, at least?
Rest in Peace.
The article says that the dog survived.
The world lost an amazing editor. Qt’s films will never be the same without her.
The article clearly states “with her dog (who survived)”.
Sad loss. She was an amazing editor.
Too bad. A great editor. What a bummer way to go.
It was 113 degrees in Los Angeles yesterday. She probably didn’t realize how the heat was affecting her until it was too later. This is very sad.
She was as important to Tarantino as Kahn to Spielberg or Schoonmaker to Scorsese; will be greatly missed.
How awful. Quentin’s going to have a tough time with his next project, he seemed really fond of her.
And the dog not only survived, but was sitting by her side when her body was found. That’s the part that brought tears to my eyes.
That’s so sad. I wonder if her dog survived.
Oh no! It always seemed like she and Quentin made a perfect team.
First and foremost my condolence to the family. Second, this is a very sad situation. Third and last comment some of you may not like or appreciate but this has to be said. What was she doing hiking in a triple digit temperature? This is common sense and apparently she wasn’t using it when she decided to go hiking in that heat along with the dog. Again, very sad situation but could have been avoided if she only used common sense.
