Winona Ryder, Martin Landau, Martin Short, and Catherine O’Hara have been cast in Tim Burton’s stop-motion animation Frankenweenie, Deadline reports. The story revolves around a man who reanimates his dog. The film, scripted by John August, is due out in 2012. It’s based on a live-action short Burton shot while a 25-year-old animator at Disney. Reviewing the video release in 1992, EW said, “A black-and-white homage to old horror flicks, the movie has a parodistic plot that plays out a primal suburban-childhood nightmare: What if I threw my beloved pet the ball just a little too hard and he got hit by a car while trying to retrieve it?”

What, no Johnny Depp? Maybe this will actually be a good movie. I’m sick of his crap like Willy Wonka and Alice In Wonderland, Corpse Bride, Planet of the Apes. I still won’t pay to see it. I’ll wait until it’s on TV.
I loved the 1992 short and have it on video. Looking forward to the feature and seeing Burton alums, but hope it’s not over-produced…
Burton knows other actors exist, right?
hhaha good one
I’m looking forward to his version of The Adams Family. That should be interesting. You already know who’s going to play Gomez. So it should be fun to watch.
How about his doing “The Munsters?” or maybe “Green Acres?”
You know, the original short had Sofia Coppola, Daniel Stern, & Shelley Duvall (starring Barret Oliver) …wonder if any of them would be up for a voice-cameo …?
