'American Idol' judges' panel finalized: Announcement set for Sept. 22

american-idol-tableImage Credit: F Micelotta/Getty ImagesThe American Idol season 10 judges’ panel has been finalized, but you’ll have to wait until Sept. 22 before Fox executives officially name names. The network announced this afternoon via email that Idol host Ryan Seacrest will make the big announcement at a press conference at The Forum in Los Angeles at noon PT on Wednesday, Sept. 22, where he’ll be joined by the panelists in question as well as the “Idol team” (presumably executive producers Nigel Lythgoe, Cecile Frot-Coutaz, and Simon Fuller).

    I’m hoping for RuPaul.

      XD Great idea!

    • asherlev

ROFL I misread this as RON Paul.

Ohmygosh yes please please! Let’s put some BASS in that panel!

  • Stormy

Good. Maybe now they can address the unlimited voting issue.

  • starry

If J. Lo is indeed one of the judges, I’ll pass on the entire season. Can’t stand her. And I really agree with Stormy about the unlimited voting; is 1 person voting 1000 times really worth more than 999 people voting one time each??

Crud–guess this unfortunately means that they are not also replacing the terrible Ryan Seacrest while they are clearing house.

    • Cris

Oh come on, it’s always fun to watch how uncomfortable he gets when the female wannabe’s try to hug him.

      • Lucy

On the flip side, it’s extremely uncomfortable watching Ryan try to hug people who clearly don’t want to be hugged.

If they announce J Lo and Stevn Tyler as the new judges then AI is officially dead and gone. RIP 2002-2010

    • Maureen

      Agreed! ;)

Thirded! I cannot think of two worse choices. I find both irrelevant and grating. Bye Bye Idol….Hello X-Factor!

      • @Hoboken

I can think of worse choices. How about Dr. Phil and Martha Stewart? Or Joy Behar and Gordon Ramsey? Or Kara Dioguardi and Ellen Degeneres?

Its not dead, not going to die anytime soon. It will survive Simon, Kara, Paula, Angie Martinez – the star of this show is the Fairy Tale, the young hopeful plucked from nothing into superstardom. It doesn’t really matter who the judges are. Idol franchises are all over the world without Simon Cowell, and for the most part, they are doing fine. Will it pull the astronomical numbers it once did? Probably not. But Survivor doesn’t either, yet it remains a top 20 show and the only way its leaving is by its own choice. Same for Idol. Save your breath.

sue sylvester ftw! she should judge american idol for sure, take simon’s place!

  • Cris

You’re holding a press conference to announce the judges?! Didn’t they learn anything from “The Decision”?

    • Kevin

Learn what, that it can draw 10 million viewers on cable? Because that’s what I learned.

  • Richard Pollock

they should have shania twain harry connick jr randy jackson no others

    • G-Mom

      I agree!!! Good choices!

    • MW

I agree. Harry Connick jr was so good when he monitored the group last year. He is right on with a great scense of humor and firm constructive advice.

      • Lori

unfortunately, Harry Connick Jr will be in Florida filming a movie over the next few months :(

    • emma

Shania makes me puke. Arrogant nobody.

Ugh, so no other contenders have surfaced, it’s obviously JLo and Steven Tyler. I’m with the consensus, RIP AI. The show has been going downhill for a couple of years. The talent is getting worse, it doesn’t really matter if you win (just being in the top 10 is enough), and the contestants a huge yawn. Take Simon and Paula out of it and replace them with those 2 dolts (honestly, have you heard Steven Tyler speak? He’s a mess) and the thing is done.

  • yep

i’m gonna go there again, but i don’t watch for the judges. HOPEFULLY, we are smart enough to know who is good and who isn’t. now if they pick another boring bunch of kids, then i might be discouraged. maybe we’ll get great contenders. and just so you know, there is NO way they’ll limit the voting, the amount of money the phone companies would lose would be atronomical. i wouldn’t hold my breath for that, although i completely agree with limiting number of votes.

  • JJ

I hope there are only 3 judges.

  • poodlegirl

It was already announced as J-Lo and Steven Tyler. Also, probably Harry Conick Jr.

    • du

So far Randy is the only one that Nigel hinted about being on the panel.

  • poodlegirl

    I want Gene Simmons!!!!

    • Stormy

      On the panel, or personally?

  • cjinsd

Unless there is someone other than JLo, Steven Tyler, & Randy Jackson, there’s no news…everybody already knows.

Ultimately, who the judges are shouldn’t matter. The show is about the contestants, or is supposed to be. I never watch til they get down to the final 12. I don’t get a charge out of watching all those poor, sad wanna-be’s humiliating themselves, so I wait til the show is down to the ones with actual talent. Last year, other than Crystal Bowersox, there wasn’t much talent in that final 10. I still can’t believe Lee Dwyze could beat her.. or anybody else for that matter. But that’s part of the fun of the show.. you never know what’s going to happen. I could care less if they even have judges. They should just let the kids sing and let the public vote every round.

    • Zazazing

I usually just fast-forward through the judges comments. I don’t need them to tell me if I like somebody or not. After all, it’s the viewers who decide who stays and who goes, so why do we even need to know what the judges think? It’s not like they offer any helpful advice. Have ‘em for the audition process and that’s it.
