NBC newsman Edwin Newman has passed away, the Associated Press reports. Newman, the author of best-sellers Strictly Speaking and A Civil Tongue, was 91 years old.
A NBC broadcaster for over 30 years, Newman reported for such programs as Today, The Nightly News, and Meet the Press, and is known for announcing John F. Kennedy’s death via radio. He also anchored the series Speaking Freely, and penned and narrated documentaries like 1966′s Politics: The Outer Fringe and 1965′s Who Shall Live?.

How sad (although I thought he died awhile ago). He was truly a “newsman”
unlike today’s news celebrities. He was authoritative.
I agree with the comment of jfms777. Edwin Newman was a real newsman, not one of the endless stream of feather-weights crowding the news broadcasts now-a-days.
RIP, Edwin.
Didn’t he work with David Letterman when Dave had his morning show on NBC?
No. You’re thinking of someone else.
No, she’s correct.
“Iranians’ pains come mainly from Khomeinei”
Ha! Yes, you’ve definitely got it!
I hope this doesn’t show up three times, but Lori, you are correct. Newman did do the newsbreak during Dave’s morning show. There’s a clip of it on You Tube.
