George Michael sentenced to eight weeks in jail

Filed under: Music, News and tagged:

George Michael has been sentenced to eight weeks in jail for driving while under the influence of marijuana, the Associated Press reports. The singer pleaded guilty in August to the charge, which stemmed from an incident on July 4, when he crashed his car into a photo store in London. In court Tuesday, the judge scolded Michael for taking a “dangerous and unpredictable mix” of marijuana and prescription medication while driving. “It does not appear that you took proper steps to deal with what is clearly an addiction to cannabis,” District Judge John Perkins said to Michael. “That’s a mistake which puts you and, on this occasion, the public at risk.”

Michael must also pay a $1,930 fine for the crime, and is barred from getting behind the wheel for five years.

The weed wasn’t for him…he was buying him for Buster, who was going to give them to Lucille 2 to help her deal with her vertigo…honest!

    Oh George. Sigh.

    • Alex

      Wow kind of surprised…second offense?

  • lis

Yeah, blame it on the cannabis. It had nothing to do with the prescription pain killers. . . . .

    • Catherine

I soooo agree. Let’s balme cannabis when millions of people are addicted to prescription drugs (with the blessing of your doctor and politicians).

    • Jamie

Oh please – you can be addicted to both. And since his prior convictions were cannabis related I think that is why the judge is focusing on that more than the other. I am not opposed to people smoking from time to time, but I always find it interesting that the people who scream the loudest about poor cannabis being picked on are the ones who don’t have a productive life. Unless of course you think laying around all day, high and playing video games a productive life – which if that’s the case good for you! But obviously George can’t handle it.

Anyone who thinks weed makes you drive into a photo shop and then pass out is on some real drugs.

Please, both were to blame. Perscription drugs of course cause problems, but don’t be so ignorant to think that driving high doesn’t cause accidents. It does and there are stats to prove it.

Fresh meat in jail!… well, not that fresh actually

  • Well…

Every other report says he was under the influence of GHB.

  • jt

Loser. And he obviously hasn’t taken any of his prior convictions seriously. I can’t like a performer I no longer have any respect for.

….bid deal !!!….if Boy George can pick up NYCity thrash for community service….8 weeks in da slammer is a pat on the wrist….

  • sapodilla

Oh sure, an addiction to cannibis was surely to blame. Just another shot at marijuana propaganda. They would not dare blame a multi billion dollar industry divoted to providing powerful and actually proven to be addictive proscribed drugs.

  • sapodilla

Lets call people who use drugs loseers and throw them in jail. The human population always has and always will use medical and recreational drugs. Why try to denie it and say one side is unethical and one side is pure as the driven snow.

  • Jean Genie

Good – hope this can save his life.

  • Marion Brown

    Another screwed up artist…sigh.
