London indie band The xx was awarded the Barclaycard Mercury Prize on Tuesday for their debut 2009 album xx, the AP reports. The band beat 11 other finalists (including Paul Weller, Dizzee Rascal, and Laura Marling) for the $30,000 prize, which has been given every year since 1992 to the best album by a British or Irish artist.
