Betty White and Neil Patrick Harris among winners at the Creative Arts Emmys

Betty White, Neil Patrick Harris, John Lithgow, and Ann-Margret were among the actors honored at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys ceremony, the Associated Press reports. All four won in categories honoring guest appearances: White for hosting Saturday Night Live, Harris for appearing on Glee, Lithgow for Dexter, and Ann-Margret for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Survivor host (and EW.com blogger) Jeff Probst won his third straight Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

Many of the Emmys given out this afternoon were for technical categories like casting and make-up. With 17 trophies (seven for The Pacific), HBO took home more than any other network. The Emmys Web site has a full list of winners. (The ceremonywill be turned into a two-hour special on E!, airing Aug. 27.) The main Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Aug. 29.

James Patterson and Stephenie Meyer top Forbes highest-paid authors list

James Patterson and Stephenie Meyer are the world’s highest-paid authors, according to Forbes magazine. Prolific thriller writer Patterson earned an estimated $70m in the twelve months to June 1, while Twilight scribe Meyer was paid $40m. Entertainment Weekly columnist Stephen King was third on the list and Danielle Steel placed fourth.

Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton to costar in 'Joyful Noise'

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah are set to co-star in a new film called Joyful Noise, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The “musical-driven movie” will revolve around a gospel choir that both of their characters are trying to prevent from being closed down. This will be Parton’s first major film role since 1992. Todd Graff (Camp) is writing and directing.

Conan O'Brien to debut 'And They Call Me Mad?' on Sirius' Raw Dog Comedy channel

Conan O’Brien will debut his spoken-word narrative And They Call Me Mad? on Sirius XM’s Raw Dog Comedy channel on Aug. 23 at noon EST, EW confirms exclusively. Mad is an improvised retelling of the Frankenstein story and will be released as an album by Third Man Records on Aug. 24. (A second record—Conan O’Brien Live at Third Manis already available at the Third Man site.) The B-side of Man will feature an interview with O’Brien by Jack White, Third Man’s founder.

'Iron Man' duo to pen new 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

Michael Bay’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot at Paramount has its writers. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision Blog, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who were part of the team that scripted Iron Man, have been hired to breathe new life into the four green heroes in a half-shell. Pending an acceptable script, Paramount hopes to begin production next year.

Stephen Colbert specials to honor 'Returnification' of Iraq troops

Stephen Colbert is hosting two Comedy Central specials to commemorate the end of U.S. combat operations in Iraq and honor the troops returning home. “Been There, Won That: The Returnification of the American-Do Troopscape” will be taped and aired on Sept. 8 and 9, featuring an audience composed entirely of Iraq war veterans, both in the studio and via satellite from Walter Reed Army Hospital and Afghanistan. Special guests will include Vice President Joe Biden and Commanding General Ray Odierno (the soldier who shaved Colbert’s head at last June).

Michael Been of The Call dies

Michael Been, vocalist and guitarist for the 1980s band The Call, suffered a heart attack in Belgium on Thursday and died. He was 60 years old. Been had been touring with his son’s band, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, serving as a sound engineer, when he was stricken backstage at the Pukkelpop Music Festival in Hasselt. The Call produced 10 albums between 1982 and 2000, including 1989′s Let the Day Begin, the title track of which later became a campaign song for Al Gore in 2000.

Carson Daly's 'Last Call' renewed for 10th season

NBC has renewed its late-late-night talk show Last Call With Carson Daly for a 10th season, according to Variety. The former MTV personality’s half-hour show averages 971,000 viewers at 1:35 a.m., but that number jumps significantly, Variety reports, when live+7 figures are added to account for viewers who are asleep during the broadcast.

Bruce Willis in talks to join Carey Mulligan, Saiorse Ronan in 'Violet & Daisy'

Bruce Willis is in talks to join Violet & Daisy, the directorial debut for Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher, according to the LA Times. The veteran joins Carey Mulligan and Saiorse Ronan in the movie, which the Times says has been described as “Thelma & Louise meets Superbad with a helping of Pulp Ficton.” Machete star Danny Trejo is also reportedly in talks for a role.

Fletcher earned an Oscar for penning Precious.

Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp film 'The Tourist' gets Dec. 10, 2010 release date

This year’s holiday movie season just got a double whammy of star power. Sony Pictures confirms to EW that The Tourist, an international thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, will hit theaters on Dec. 10, 2010. About an American tourist (Depp) in Europe who gets swept up in the life of a spy (Jolie), the film will go up against the Mark Wahlberg/Christian Bale boxing drama The Fighter, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
