Dr. Laura Schlessinger apologizes after using racial epithet

Categories:

Longtime talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has posted an apology to her website after a conversation with a caller on Tuesday where she said in the N-word several times. “I articulated the N-word all the way out—more than one time,” Schlessinger said in the apology, which opened her show Wednesday morning. “And that was wrong. I’ll say it again—that was wrong.” Schlessinger claimed she was trying to make a philosophical point and lost her way. She continued in her apology: “I ended up, I’m sure, with many of you losing the point I was trying to make, because you were shocked by the fact that I said the word. I, myself, realized I had made a horrible mistake, and was so upset I could not finish the show. I pulled myself off the air at the end of the hour. I had to finish the hour, because 20 minutes of dead air doesn’t work. I am very sorry. And it just won’t happen again.”

On Tuesday’s show, Schlessinger repeated the N-word several times after a caller, identified as Jade, asked if the word was offensive. “Black guys say it all the time,” Schlessinger, who never directed the word at the caller, said. When the woman objected, Schlessinger commented: “Oh, then I guess you don’t watch HBO or listen to any black comedians.”

Former 'Heroes' star Masi Oka cast in CBS' 'Hawaii Five-0' reboot

Categories: Television, TV Biz

Now that he can’t save the world (or cheerleaders) anymore as time-stopping teleporter Hiro Nakamura in NBC’s now-canceled Heroes, Emmy-nominee Masi Oka is moving into a new prime-time do-gooding role: EW has confirmed reports that the actor has been cast in CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot, which is shaping up to have some serious geek-pop cred. The cast: Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) and Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica). The exec producers: Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek; Fringe). Just what kind of mystery island drama is this new Hawaii Five-0 going to be, anyway? Oka will reportedly play a coroner in the show’s fourth episode and may become a recurring character in the series.

George Michael charged for cannabis possession

Categories:

George Michael was charged earlier today with possessing cannabis and driving under the influence of drink or drugs, Reuters reports. He was released on bail and told to appear in court on Aug. 24. The charges relate to an incident last month when he crashed his Range Rover into a Snappy Snaps shop in London.

The Grammy award-winning singer, whose hits include  “Father Figure,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me,” and “Faith,” has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist. He has also had several bouts with the law and drugs over the years. Michael, 47, had just regained his driving privileges last year after they were suspended in 2007 for driving while unfit due to drugs. In that incident, he was accused of driving into three parked cars and leaving the scene without notifying their owners.

Sum 41 cancels Warped Tour stops due to Deryck Whibley injury

Categories:

Sum 41 has canceled five appearances on the Van’s Warped Tour so singer Deryck Whibley can recover from injuries suffered in an attack by three men last week. “Deryck Whibley was attacked in a random unprovoked incident in Japan last Thursday night which aggravated a previous slipped disk injury that he sustained in 2007,” the band says in a statement on its website. “After seeking medical attention, Deryck and band mates Steve Jocz, Cone McCaslin and Tom Thacker went on to play as part of the festival in Osaka and Tokyo. Whibley’s condition has not improved. Knowing that they are unable to deliver their signature high energy show, Sum 41 made the tough decision that a break is needed while Deryck begins rehabilitation for the slipped disk.”

Sum 41 has canceled the following dates on the Vans Warped Tour:

Aug. 11, 2010 – Pomona, Calif.

Aug. 12, 2010 – Marysville, Calif.

Aug. 13, 2010 – Boise, Id.

Aug. 14, 2010 – Quincy, Wa.

Hollywood icon Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, returned to her home in L.A. yesterday nearly four weeks after going to the hospital for a hip replacement, reports the Associated Press. Gabor’s recovery from surgery was complicated by an infection that threatened to keep her in the hospital indefinitely. The actress was transported home in an ambulance accompanied by a police escort and a Rolls Royce driven by Gabor’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt. “She smiled already and started flirting with the guys who took her home,” von Anhalt told reporters outside the couple’s Bel Air home yesterday. “When she starts flirting, she is in good shape.”
