'Takers' overtakes 'The Last Exorcism' for box office No. 1

About those reports that The Last Exorcism was the top film at the box office this weekend? Never mind! In a nail-biter of a finish between two movies no one will likely remember a month from now, Takers ended up besting Exorcism once the revised studio numbers were released. Takers‘ take of $20.5 million puts it just ahead of The Last Exorcism‘s $20.4 million, whereas yesterday’s estimates had Exorcism ahead by $300,000.

So why don’t EW retract rather delete the article named “‘Last Exorcism,’ ‘Takers’ almost tied in $$”? I believe the official receipts are: TAKERS ($20,512,304)and THE LAST EXORCISM ($20,366,613).

    • Kylie

Because they are ALMOST tied in race. It is rare that two movies (atleast in spots #1 and 2) are that close in box office numbers.

Why dont you apply for a job with EW! I mean you are obviously some sort of journalistic geniusm they just have to take you. Then you can do what ever you want. Have anything relevent to post? Another EW Snob, why do you people even come on here?

  • Generation Gossip

I too wondered why they delted rather than admit the information was wrong the first time around. Thought I was the only one who noticed LOL

Because the original article was released on Sunday when they make ESTIMATES of what the box office will be for the weekend. The actuals come out on Monday, and often times differ than the estimates. This is common practice.

    • Jamie

The media NEVER admit fault! He who writes the rules will always lord over the masses!

  • Generation Gossip Sucks

I totally wondered the same thing.

  • dont see it

i seen the Last Exorcism, it sucked! do not waste ur money on this. all the “scary” parts are what u see in the previews….

Maybe because you can’t take back news? I’ve never known any publication that removed false news once it’s been proven. They either give updates or new information. They never take information back. Once it’s out it’s out. It maybe an ethics thing, but it should apply to anyone.

The American: $19.2 (George Clooney is still a box office force)
Going the Distance: $15.3 (September is a wasteland for rom-coms)
Machete: $18.7 (Good word-of-mouth will keep it alive)
The Town: $25.7 (Ditto and people seem to want to rid themselves of the dirty taste of “Takers”)
Resident Evil 4: $30.4 (It’s the only wide release opening that weekend)
Alpha and Omega: $10.7 (It doesn’t seem too impressive)
Devil: $23.2 (It’s actually a critically impressive year for horror films; could Devil continue this trend?)
Easy A: $18.9 (This decades Mean Girls in terms of reception?)

    • Slezak

Clooney is not a box office force

      • m1

Up in the Air pulled in over $80 million because of him. How is he NOT a box office force?

      • Jamaaliver

Because outside of the Ocean’s movies (which also star actual box office draws Brad Pitt and Matt Damon) that $80million opening is Clooney’s best in a loooong time.

      • Jamaaliver

**$80 million dollar total gross I mean.

    • Barry

The only reason Resident Evil 4 will make any money is because of the #D surcharge for the glasses.

    • Kylie

Clooney is certainly NOT a box office force. Just a popular sex symbol among middle-aged women.

      • you

Hey wait a min, I am not middle aged and I think Clooney is hot. Also, I can’t wait to watch The Town, it looks reallllly good!

    • ryan

      And who are you?

    • Jamie

Who cares and what does this have to do with Takers? We all know that certain actors receive all praise all of the time so what is new? I have never liked Clooney. I have never seen him in a film!

  • EWSucksAsS

WTF? “Last Exorcism” was #1, idiots! Look at IMDb, you superficial ball-licking freaks!!

    • EC

      Maybe you should look yourself.

      From IMDB:

      Box Office
      1. Takers $20.5M
      2. The Last Exorcism $20.4M
      3. The Expendables $9.53M
      4. Eat Pray Love $6.82M
      5. The Other Guys $6.29M

    • ryan

Umm do you look at any other sites other than imdb and ew?

  • Miss Talk

Everybody predicted Takers will end up at #1. Eye candies Dillon, Christensen, Walker, Ealy + T.I’s swagger + Brown crazy stunts were enough to draw the audience. Kudos!

  • Nathan

You know it’s a soft week when a movie with Chris Brown and Hayden Christensen ends up #1.

    • m1

      Tell me about it.

    • Jamie

Whatever! I love both young talents. They both surprised me and did very well in this film! Stop trying to dismiss ppl! Everyone has merit you should run along and find your talent and stop hating on ppl who are successfully pursuing theirs

      • Robert

Takers – a movie for people who still use the term “haters”

  • bobbi

Clooney is eye candy for females over the age of 25. I will see every movie he stars in, and take friends to see it too. Loved takers.

    • Jamie

      You mean over 45?

  • Ciana Gaines

Saw Takers twice planning on seeing it again can u say diverse eye candy!

    • Robert

can you say “mouth-breather”? Go shine up your Transformers 2 DVD

  • bob

I tried to tell you people on here Takers was going to be No. 1. Did I lie to you? I was on point too. I am the king! LOL

  • Jamie

WOW VERY DISAPPOINTED IN EW.COM! When you thought that “The Last Exorcism” had won you had an actual article talking about how great the film was! NOW THAT WE ALL KNOW THAT “TAKERS” actually won the weekend box office, you people give us 3 sentences? WOW don’t be too mad..LOL! GREAT JOB CHRIS BROWN (the one you claimed would sink the viewership but actually brought ppl into the theaters in droves), T.I., Idris (would you marry me?) Elba, Michael (baby love) Elay, Hayden (my white boyfriend) Christensen, Paul (sexy as hell) walker, Jay (fine as ever) Hernandez, & Matt Dillion. You guys did a wonderful job even if the media at large wont acknowledge it!

    • Robert

good to see stupid people are keeping movies like this afloat. Just throw a bunch of people you recognize into a movie, give them a plot that’s been done 50,000 times, put some music in the background and WALLAH! Crap sandwich

    • RockStar

Robbie your a (MGM) – Mad Gay Male…

  • RockStar

Well if WE oops EW…would stop acting like the movie was not that great and give it some respect maybe we fans would not have to tell them to fix their errors…COME ON YOU EW CLOWNS…

  • Bob

I don’t need to go to a omvie to see a bunch of African American men being criminals. I just have to pick up a newspaper. Blacks will never get where they need to be in Hollywood if they keep playing criminals and thugs.
