This year’s holiday movie season just got a double whammy of star power. Sony Pictures confirms to EW that The Tourist, an international thriller starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, will hit theaters on Dec. 10, 2010. About an American tourist (Depp) in Europe who gets swept up in the life of a spy (Jolie), the film will go up against the Mark Wahlberg/Christian Bale boxing drama The Fighter, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Wow, three films will be released on the same day and yet none of them look interesting.
I expect to see Johnny Depp’s jealous girlfriend lurking in the back of every scene, making sure that Jolie home-wrecker doesn’t Aniston her…

No worries. Supposedly it was a concern, but Depp and Jolie didn’t get along terribly well. Johnny, Vanessa and their family unit remain intact.

Why is Jolie always playing some sort of spy/assassin?
Because she’s evil and capable of being that crafty. It’s type casting.
Awesome. I bet this film has some Oscar potential too, since they deemed it good enough to move it to the highly competitive Holiday frame.

Are you CRAZY? She is a complete waste as an actress. Her best “acting” was in the Stones’ music video “Has Anybody Seen My Baby” & that’s because she had no dialogue.
Depp is the furthest thing from a one trick pony. That argument against him is becoming so tired. Just because he has played a lot of eccentric characters does not mean the characters are similar or that he is a one trick pony. Depp is one of the best actors of his generation and he has proven it time and time again.

Jolie is the one-trick pony. How many stoic action characters/ spies will she play? Occasionally she’ll throw in a dash of crazy to mix it up.

Word. Even at his most cliched, give me Depp’s weird intonations and tongue-in-cheek humor over Jolie’s “i’m so sexy” glances over the shoulder and horribly acted meltdowns any day.

It’s so weird, I was just thinking about this movie and I knew it was coming out in February 2011. I did a search and I see it was pushed up to December. Awesome. I love when a movie is pushed up rather than back 8 months, but it is rare.
The studio’s decision to release it in December is a sign that they like how it’s turning out — just as moving a film back is almost always a bad sign, moving it up to a competitive time slot is a good one.
It means that studio liked it but not necessarily that it`s a good movie. Paramount moved The Lovely Bones into the Oscar season (December) and that movie turned out a critical and boxoffice disaster. OTOH, they pushed back Shutter island to February and it was a boxoffice hit with pretty good critical reception.
I agree. The Lovely Bones sucked, but it was in a limited release in December before expanding a month later. The Tourist is going straight wide. There’s a difference.
YAY!!!! The Fighter!!!!!!!!! Christian Bale!!!!!! Can’t wait to see that one!!!! I know someone who already saw it and he said it was amazing!!!!!! I also want to see Narnia, but I am more excited about the next Christian Bale movie!!!!
I think that she is very suited to action bcoz she thinks that everyone can act but there should be perfect….i think she have skill to do blockbuster movies…..
Oh right, she’s such a bad actress that the academy has nominated her thre times for an Oscar. I mean they just hand those out to really crappy actresses and the awesome ones like Aniston get overlooked year after year, tsk tsk.
She’s quite capable of doing very lowkey roles, it’s just that everyone wets their panties when she does an action role. Blame yourselves.
The Oscars are basically a popularity contest. It’s not about the performance or Kate Winslett and Meryl Streep would each have at least 3 of them.
I just saw Jolie in Salt and thought she killed it. True, she does a lot of action movies but its not like they aren’t good. She’s a very good dramatic actress too. I’ll watch Depp in anything; for me, his most memorable role was as the English Earl who died of syphillis in The Libertine. He was fantastic! I still say that Lady Gaga stole a scene from Depp in that movie in the paparazzi video.
Can’t wait to see Jolie and Depp together-SHe and he are such EXCELLENT actors
to anyone who doubts Depp’s range I reccomens watching Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Carribean, and Sweeny Todd in succession.

Depp and Jolie are both pretty good actors, although Jolie doesn’t play different characters like Depp, which would show her versatility. However, i’m excited to see them on screen together!
