Mad Men‘s January Jones will be suiting up as the telepathic Emma Frost in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: First Class, according to Variety. The action film, which is being directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass), will center on the friendship between two young mutants: Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender), who will later become Xavier’s nemesis, Magneto. Also announced as part of the cast were Zoe Kravitz (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) as Angel, Jason Flemyng (Snatch) as Azazel, Bill Bilner (Son of Rambow) as an even younger Magneto, and Morgan Lily (2012) as a young Raven. X-Men Origins: First Class will be released June 3, 2011.

I thought Alice Eve was suppose to be Emma Frost? Did she drop out? Personally, I think Alice would have been a better choice.

This is bull… less than a year for a release. No cast, no script, this movie will stink. Seriously all the action movies which have a release date for next year And no scripts finish. Hollywood just wants the money from the kids. But if they think about it the right way. A good action flick with good script does much better: Dark Knight, Xmen 2, Iron Man. Batman. not the case= Wolverine. Batman & Robin, Superman Returns, Spiderman 3, iron man 2
She is the only part of Mad Men that is terrible.
She is basically a cardboard cut out in front of a camera.
And that is all it takes to get an Emmy nomination even when Katey Segal and Lucy Lawless actually had to be good actresses in their respective roles. How do you expect people to get excited over an announcement about January “I may be pretty but I sure as hell can’t act” Jones getting a role in anything?
Das Boot, you truly have no clue what you speak of. The fact that she appears like a cardboard cut-up is exactly what the writers wanted her character to present. Betty is supposed to be remote, detached, unable to express her emotions. the character is profoudly damaged, from sexual abuse at the hands of her father as a child. The writers have alluded to that, in a couple of past episodes…remember when her father mistakes her for his “wife” and attempts to handle her. I know he had alzheimer’s, but you can not miss their dysfunctional emotional dynamic. Her fridgity as an adult is also a symptom of seual abuse. Why is it that most people only think you are actors good is when they are chewing the scenery. Underplaying a role is actually the more difficult method for an actor when playing a character. My question is…where the heck has her character been all season? I truly adore Jon Hamm as the ever conflicted and complex Donald Draper…but the show has many interesting characters and is supposed to be an ensemble, not a one man show.
I have to agree with diego and couchgrouch (below). (Don’t forget the UNFORGIVABLE mess that was X-MEN 3!)and for that matter, Daredevil and Elektra).
I think that any superhero movie that doesn’t have a brilliant script (hell, a FINISHED good script) this far into planning/pre-production, is going to suck. It will make money opening weekend guaranteed but if the filmmakers make an awful film the fans and the critics will show no mercy before and after it’s release.
If Marvel keeps green-lighting crap comic book movies you can bet fans will eventually start boycotting future releases to teach them a very important lesson. The fundamental lesson being: if you want to make a movie based on a comic book, execs/writers/directors/etc., you actually have to READ THE DAMN COMIC(S) FIRST!!!!!
P.S. I love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine but I HATED X-Men Origins: Wolverine!
P.P.S. The Dark Knight and even Inception show how clearly a great script + great execution make for a great movie. Marvel you are forewarned, if Thor and Captain America aren’t quality, Batman 3 will have the Nolans and DC laughing all the way to the bank!
My question is why some of the actors are young and some are old? Like why is Emma Frost the same age as Charles Xavier since January Jones is close to the age of James McAvoy? I thought First Class was young mutants, hence Emma Frost young. But then Magneto is young but Prof. X isn’t? Weird.
Actually, the actors playing Professor X and Magneto are about the same age. They only mentioned the “even younger Magneto” because the actor playing him in flashbacks or opening scenes was apparently well known enough to mention. Also, I’m pretty sure Emma Frost was close in age to professor X as January Jones is close to the aforementioned actors. At the end of the day though, it’s Hollywood. Joe Pesci was twice Marissa Tomei’s age in “My Cousin Vinny” and they were supposed to be engaged. It’s just how it goes
Absolutely wrong. Emma was much younger than Prof. X in the comics. She’s been hooked up with Cyclops for years, for goodness sakes!

I haven’t seen January Jones in much other than Mad Men. What I have seen though makes me think she is perfect as Betty Draper but stinks at everything else she does.
True. Love her in Mad Men… but her guest stint on SNL really turned me off. Hopefully she’ll be able to loosen up for this role.

when she hosted SNL it was so terrible and boring! the Rear Window/Grace Kelly skit was horrible, i can’t believe she was laughing through that. it wasn’t funny, it was disgraceful!

Jeez, people, give her a little bit of a break with the SNL gig. Yes, she was awful, but that was live, with no chance for a second take. So she was nervous. Maybe she had never done live TV before, and let’s face it, she wasn’t a good fit. But there’s one hell of a big difference between acting on live TV and acting in a movie.
You’ve obviously never seen her on any talk show- she’s always like that. And I haven’t been too impressed with her non-Betty performances.

She’s like a female William Shatner, minus the charisma. Watching promos of her speaking in between Breaking Bad commercial breaks is always worth a hearty laugh. Even a dope like Ashton Kutcher knew how awful of an actress she is.
I don’t see how anyone’s acting talent can be measured by a stint on SNL. most of that material is just low brow garbage and has been for 35 years. it’s rep is based on .001% of its accomplishments. will anyone honestly say those Betty White skits were any good? I tuned in to see what all the Betty White fuss was for and it stunk as bad as it ever did. JJ’s just gonna be another zero chick in a bad superhero flick. she’ll cash her check, show up in a tight suit at Comic-Con and forget it ever happened.

January is a really good actress. I am kinda surprised she’s been cast as Emma Frost though. And I assume Zoe Kravitz is playing “Angel” from New X-Men, the girl with insect wings. I’m kinda confused as to the plot of this movie. Xavier and Magneto are supposed to be much older than the others when they join the X-Men. I wanna know more!
How can a persons entire career hinge on one bad episode of SNL? if thats the case then the entire current cast of SNL is doomed. This girl has been nominated for emmy’s and GG. I think that outweights a bad performance on SNL.And January Jones is a c-cup. her breast are fine for the role.

They most likely mean Angel Salvadore, Beak’s eventual love interest. She also has wings, and Zoe Kravitz totally looks like her. She’s from Grant Morrison’s run.

Go look up Angel Salvadore. That’s the Angel here. Just like when they’re saying “Raven” above, they mean Mystique, Raven Darkholme.
It is my opinion that JJ can’t act. Period. She’s getting Emmy noms because she has the right face. That’s it. Sooner or later people will see this.
