Spyglass Entertainment reportedly nearing deal to run MGM

Spyglass Entertainment is nearing a deal to run debt-ridden movie studio MGM, according to The Wall Street Journal. Spyglass, which has co-financed such movies as Dinner for Schmucks, Star Trek, and The Sixth Sense, would receive a 4 percent ownership stake in the restructured studio, and creditors would forgive MGM’s $4 billion debt in exchange for the bulk of the studio’s new equity. A deal could reportedly be finished as soon as this week, ultimately paving the way for MGM to return to making movies, including the James Bond franchise and Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit films.

Hopefully this finally gets resolved soon.

Same! I’ve been waiting for the Hobbit and for a new Bond installment with Craig (hopefully one thats better than QoS and more on par with CR)

  • kp

Maybe you guys jumped the gun on that Bond cover huh?

    • thin

It’s been a concern for months, so I’m going to go with “no.”

      • MCS

I agree with thin. if anything they were late in doing the cover, it has been a huge concern for months.

    • Frank Anderson

I’d say they may have helped bring this issue more recognition, possibly helping fuel this potential deal.

      • steve

        I agree.

Ha! I totally forgot about that. Hopefully this will get resolved so we can get at least one more Bond movie with Daniel Craig.

    • Nathan

At least 3 more would be nice, he is the best Bond since Connery after all.

      • Joe

sorry, Roger was way better than Daniel Craig.

      • m.

        Last Bond movie sucked.

      • Pete

Craig has made one awesome Bond film, and possibly the worst Bond film. Moore made 7, 4 of which are great, and only 1 or 2 were lacking. There’s no comparison.

      • Casey

Yes, Quantum of Solace was awful. But it’s certainly not Daniel Craig’s fault. The man is the perfect Bond, and he proved in Casino Royale. While Moore made 7 and a few great, Casino Royale ranks right up with Connery’s Bond. Moore never came close. Quantum of Solace sucked because Marc Foster blew it and the studio turned Bond into a Jason Bourne.

Live and Let Die was either horribly racist or a parody of blaxploitation; The Man With The Golden Gun had the worst Bond girl, the most ridiculous and insulting henchman, the nonsensical return of Sheriff Pepper, and the stupid fake body part gag; Moonraker was a parody of The Spy Who Loved Me; and View to a Kill had 60-year old Bond, another of the worst Bond girls (not May Day), and a firetruck chase. For Your Eyes Only is awesome, and the other two are okay.

      • Jon

If it weren’t for the God-awful Timothy Dalton, I would definitely say Roger Moore was the worst Bond. Moonraker is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

    • Bob

Craigs movies are boring. One good action sequence over two films.

      Bring back the gadgets.

EW’s cover now looks retarded even to the lay-man.

Although the industry and Bond watchers knew EW’s “Bond Is Dead” story was total hokum, I find it pleasantly amusing that even Joe Schmo now knows EW’s journalism levels are down with the tabloids.

    • BP

      Lay-man? Now who’s the retard?

  • robinepowell

I really hope Daniel Craig can at least one more, if not two more ‘Bond’ movies under his belt before they deicide to give the boot. I would like to see him do a total of eight Bond movies, beating Sean Connery’s record of seven Bond movies. ;)

    One can always hope. :D

    • Pete

Connery made 7 only if you count Never Say Never Again, which wasn’t part of the real franchise. Moore made 7.

      • Dave

Never Say Never Again was a remake of “Thunderball.” Barbera Carrera was definately an upgrade. It released the same time as “For Your Eyes Only.” FYEO absolutely kicked NSNA’s butt!

  • dee123

Here’s hoping we see Bond, Hobbit & Joss Whedon’s The Cabin In The Woods soon.

  • Amber

Thought y’all jumped the gun on the cover. Especially since I just read an article last week, debunking half of it.

Glad to see Daniel Craig get a reprieve. He is a superb Bond.

    • JoJo

Who Cares! The article could have said James Bond is a space alien from the future…what ever it takes to put Daniel Craig on the cover! ;-)

      • Sally

        So true!

      • Brad

I think considering the amount of hype over The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, looking for magazine covers with Craig won’t need too many excuses in the future.

  • JMaG

Don’t really care if the Bond stuff has to wait a bit, but I really hope the Hobbit issues get resolved and get Peter Jackson on board. It really was meant for him to direct.

    • Kat

      yes yes yes yes!

      • ghan-buri-ghan

        what Kat said!

  • Anderson

This is fantastic news (if it comes to be)! I am a die-hard Bond fan, can’t wait to get a new one, especially with Daniel Craig!

    • BP

      He is so delicious.

  • sarah

Rather have Tom Hardy as Bond. Craig looks a bit old now

  • Robert Niblick

    James Bond never dies.

  • Michelle

I don’t care about Bond; I’m more worried about The Hobbit. Please let this get resolved soon! I want my Middle Earth!

  • m

“creditors would forgive MGM’s $4 billion debt” – holy crap.

  • Kevin

We NEED more Bond and we need it soon!! Daniel Craig isn’t getting any younger.
