Teamsters preparing to strike Hollywood

With Hollywood’s contract with the Teamsters scheduled to expire Aug. 1, movie and television producers are preparing for a strike that could put a bigger dent in the industry than the 2007-08 writers strike did. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Teamsters’ Hollywood Local 399 is planning a strike-authorization vote this Sunday that will provide leverage for a walk-out. At issue is, of course, money. The union wants a two-year deal with annual raises of 3 percent; the producers are offering three years with 2 percent bumps. Teamster and Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers reps are scheduled to resume bargaining this Friday.

'American Idol': Chris Isaak reportedly in contention to replace Simon Cowell

Categories:

The race for American Idol‘s 10th season prize is heating up — and not just because the show’s second set of cattle-call auditions kick off today in Milwaukee, Wis. Indeed, the search to find a replacement for exiting judge Simon Cowell is underway, too, with The Hollywood Reporter breaking the news that singer-actor Chris Isaak has met twice with Fox executives about the position. THR’s story also mentions Fox is still considering Harry Connick Jr., who has been buzzed about as a potential judge since he memorably mentored season 9 contestants on Frank Sinatra night; has nixed the idea of Bret Michaels, who has publicly lobbied for the job since dueting with contestant Casey James on the season 9 finale; and has been approached quietly by none other than Donald Trump about the judges’ table vacancy. Spokespersons for Fox and Fremantle Media declined to comment on this story; reps for Isaak and American Idol did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Lindsay Lohan to likely serve two weeks in jail, says Sheriff's spokesman

Categories:

Lindsay Lohan will likely serve only two weeks of her 90-day sentence in jail, provided the 24-year-old actress behaves herself, according to People. “She is scheduled to be released on either Aug. 1 or 2 for overcrowding issues and good behavior,” L.A. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore told People. The L.A. County jail system commonly releases nonviolent misdemeanor offenders early due to overcrowding. Lohan began her jail sentence Tuesday at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif. Lindsay Lohan to begin jail sentence

Categories:

Lindsay Lohan arrived in court today — alongside attorney Shawn Chapman Holley, who has signed back on as the actress’ lawyer — in order to begin her 90-day jail sentence, which was ordered previously this month. Lohan, who is serving time for violating her probation attached to her DUI case, arrived at the courthouse among reporters — and some fans, who were carrying “Free Lindsay” signs. Following a short hearing, Lohan was handcuffed and escorted outside the courtroom. The actress will serve her sentence in the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif.

UPDATE: People reports that Lohan has checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility. “She’s been extremely cooperative,” Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore told People. “She’s going to be a keep-away, meaning she’ll be kept away from the general population.”
