Rainn Wilson countersues Think Brilliant

Office star Rainn Wilson has filed a countersuit against Think Brilliant, a Portland, Ore., company that helped him develop his website, SoulPancake. According to The Oregonian, Wilson is seeking at least $400,000 in damages for fraud and breach of trust. Think Brilliant filed a suit earlier this month claiming Wilson did not properly compensate it for its work and hacked into its database. The company is asking for as much as $11.3 million.

Zac Efron in talks to star in adaptation of Nicholas Sparks novel 'The Lucky One'

Variety is reporting Zac Efron is in negotiations for the starring role in The Lucky One, an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel about an Iraq War veteran who believes he made it through three tours of duty thanks to a photograph he owns of a woman who’s a stranger to him. Naturally, he tries to find the woman when he returns home.

Rihanna boarding 'Battleship'

Music superstar Rihanna is hopping aboard Battleship in what will be her feature film debut, according to Variety. The big-budget action film, based on the Hasbro board game, co-stars Alexander Skarsgard and Taylor Kitsch. Director Peter Berg (Hancock) is expected to start shooting soon, with a planned release on May 25, 2012.

Nigel Lythgoe to return to 'Idol,' Justin Timberlake and Elton John being wooed for judge slots: report

Former American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe is close to signing a deal that will return him to the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The move, says THR, could be part of a larger attempt to overhaul the show, which could mean replacing the entire judges panel. Idol creator Simon Fuller is said to be wooing Justin Timberlake and Elton John for slots at the judges’ table.

'Mad Men' premiere delivers record ratings

Last night’s season four premiere of Mad Men scored drew 2.9 million viewers, making it the most-watched season premiere of the Emmy-winning series. Its viewership was up 5 percent from the 2.76 million people who watched last season’s debut episode. Mad Men‘s first season averaged 925,000 viewers.

Al Pacino's 'Merchant of Venice' headed to Broadway

The Associated Press reports the current Shakespeare in the Park production of The Merchant of Venice, starring Al Pacino, will move to Broadway following its eight-week run in Central Park. The production will open Oct. 19 at New York’s Broadhurst Theatre and run through Jan. 9. Pacino is currently playing Shylock in the Shakespeare comedy.

Oprah Winfrey Network announces five documentaries

Oprah Winfrey’s soon-to-launch OWN television channel announced it is producing five two-hour documentaries, with participation from Julia Roberts, Goldie Hawn, and Forest Whitaker. Roberts will present and exec produce Extraordinary Moms, about several inspirational mothers; Hawn will narrate and produce the self-explanatory Searching for Happiness; and Whitaker will narrate and exec produce One Last Shot, about Louisiana’s Angola prison. Each documentary will run two hours; OWN debuts in January 2011.

'iCarly' alum Chord Overstreet joining 'Glee'

Fox announced today that Chord Overstreet (iCarly) will join Glee as Sam, Finn’s protégé who quickly becomes the New Directions singer’s competition. Overstreet’s role will be recurring. Other newcomers for season two include Charice, playing an exchange student who joins the glee club, and John Stamos, playing a love interest for Emma (Jayma Mays).

Carl Icahn suing Lions Gate

According to Reuters, Carl Icahn will file a lawsuit against Lions Gate Entertainment Corp, pointing to the studio’s “scorched-earth” methods to attempt to block the billionaire’s bid to take over Lions Gate. Last week, Lions Gate greenlit a “debt-to-equity swap” that killed Icahn’s stakes in the company, and limited his chances of being able to alter Lions Gate’s board. “We view this transaction as a prime example of scorched earth tactics executed with other people’s money — in this case, the money of Lions Gate shareholders — and they will be met with an equally forceful response,” Icahn said to Reuters in a statement.

New purported Mel Gibson tape leaks

RadarOnline has released its latest alleged Mel Gibson audio file, this one featuring the actor raging against girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva’s ex, former James Bond star Timothy Dalton. The site’s seventh Gibson tape, this release makes repeated references to Dalton, who is the father of Grigorieva’s 12-year-old son, Alexander, and who has been reportedly supporting her through her very public battle with Gibson. The tapes are at the center of several legal matters involving the couple, including the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department investigation of charges that Gibson hit Grigorieva on Jan. 6. The two are also engaged in a custody battle over their infant daughter, Lucia.
