'American Idol': Chris Isaak reportedly in contention to replace Simon Cowell

The race for American Idol‘s 10th season prize is heating up — and not just because the show’s second set of cattle-call auditions kick off today in Milwaukee, Wis. Indeed, the search to find a replacement for exiting judge Simon Cowell is underway, too, with The Hollywood Reporter breaking the news that singer-actor Chris Isaak has met twice with Fox executives about the position. THR’s story also mentions Fox is still considering Harry Connick Jr., who has been buzzed about as a potential judge since he memorably mentored season 9 contestants on Frank Sinatra night; has nixed the idea of Bret Michaels, who has publicly lobbied for the job since dueting with contestant Casey James on the season 9 finale; and has been approached quietly by none other than Donald Trump about the judges’ table vacancy. Spokespersons for Fox and Fremantle Media declined to comment on this story; reps for Isaak and American Idol did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

This is a fantastic idea. Chris Isaak is a real musician/songwriter, which Paula never was, and he’s REALLY funny. If he joins, I may be forced to start watching this stupid show again.

I listed him as a suggestion a loooong time ago. I do hope that he is being considered. I LOVED his old tv series. I think he’d make a great choice!

I want Harry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CI hasn’t even been in the press in like ten years. I don’t think he is even in the same league as Harry or Jamie Foxx.

  • dianne

    good choice

A much better candidate than Bret Michaels or Howard Stern. And his music [Wicked Game] is more in sync with today’s pop than that of has been Michaels.

I like Chris Isaak too much to see him take this job.

I want HARRY at That Judges Table

I’d love to see Chris Isaak take over. I can picture him giving honest criticism while still being witty and charming. Plus, he’s still hot. GREAT IDEA.

    Anyone but Bret :D

  • maserda

Who will play the cynic then? I hope Chris Issak won’t sugarcoat his critiques like some judges tend to…

    Harry

  • Isaak supporter

If American Idol put Chris Isaak on as a judge I think I would actually start watching the show again…

  • Sandy

No Chris Isaak. Harry Connick Jr. would be the best; then Bret Michaels.

    • Taylor

I would choose Connick over Isaak, but Isaak is still a good choice.

Either Chris Isaak or Harry Connick Jr. would rock. Now if they would only get rid of Ellen…

Now if they would only get rid of American Idol

      • @William

Now if only we could get rid of you & your stupid comment.

not that i watch this… drek, but that’s really not a bad idea. besides, he’s cute as a button, too!!!

  • Mellissa

I would actually watch next season if Chris Isaak was the host. Lord…dream man!

YES!! I was ready to give up IDOL after last year’s season of disaster. I actually listed Chris Isaak (and Debbie Harry) as my picks for new judge in the official “how can IDOL improve?” that was on the website last spring. Harry Connick Jr. would also be good. The Donald is a ridiculous idea -unless they really are trying to sabotage the show.

    • davey

If THE DONALD became a full-time judge I would most definiteyl stop watching. Either Harry or Chris would be a nice addition :)

    • Taylor

      Debbie Harry? Great suggestion.
