The Mel Gibson saga continues, as a fourth tape purportedly of the movie star has been released (and is streaming on RadarOnline.com) where Gibson threatens to burn down the house just after demanding to have sex with his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, with whom he has a 9-month-old daughter, Lucia. “How dare you act like such a bitch when I’m being so f—ing nice,” Gibson, 54, reportedly says in the video, during the three-minute conversation. “I’ll burn the g—–n house down,” he adds. The L.A. Sheriff’s department is currently investigating allegations of domestic abuse against Gibson.

If you are attacked you are only allowed to use reasonable force to defend yourself- not just go off. If he has as much anger for he as apears to have, he should stay away from her, and not talk with her. There are ways to arrange visitation thru lawyers with minimal contact with the other party. Mature adults know this. How old is he? He has seven kids- he needs to act like an adult and not a raving maniac.

Another day, another Mel tape. I’m in no way defending him at all, but has anyone done voice analysis on these tapes? It seems fishy that they’re coming out 1 per day and that she always seems to be calm-ish and collected during the rants.
Either way this situation could go is horrible. If it’s really him, he needs to go to rehab (for anger and whatever chemical is fueling these rants) immediately. If it’s her setting him up, she needs serious psychological help too. Either way their kid will suffer.

2) It’s a blackmail plot by third parties, and Gibson and his people are collecting the evidence to prosecute

Why are these tapes being released online? I think Mel Gibson is a disgusting piece of garbage for his behavior, but with these tapes continuously being released, I’m starting to think she’s not as innocent as she seems.
I’ve always supposed that RadarOnline has them all and is posting them once per day to maximize their own exposure and the life of the story over it.

Yeah, she’s not innocent, but even if you’ve been around the block a dozen times or so, it doesn’t mean you have to take this from your BF.
So? Does that justify punching her? Threatening her with violence? Screaming racial slurs? Threatening violence? Going on sexist rampage?
I don’t think she’s innocent necessarily, but I do believe that Gibson was physically violent towards her, and certainly he’s no saint in this conversations toward her either. It’s definitely interesting that she’s so calm, but of course she is — do you expect her to rage when she’s the one taping these conversations? She doesn’t want them to turn into evidence against her. So she’s being on her best behavior. That said, I don’t think that makes Gibson’s reactions any less real or any less threatening. If we want to give her the benefit of the doubt, perhaps she felt that this was the only way to get proof of the kind of person Gibson is and of how he has been treating her — she was probably even advised to do it by her lawyer. If she really felt like she was in danger, and was trying to build a case against him, what other option did she have? Because these sorts of things are always he-said, she-said. So I’m sure she’s no saint and has done questionable things, but if this is in fact Gibson on the other side of the conversation, then he has some serious issues.
I can go along with that scenario, but leaking the tapes to the press is still dubious behavior.
If that is him on those tapes, there’s nothing that will save his career. Not even a fuzzy mea culpa interview after extensive rehab and an admission of being under the influence of serious illegal drugs like meth or something.

Yes, ITA. As someone who has been down this road, it’s much, much harder than people think to get out of domestic abuse and to prove it occurred. Bruises can take a few days to show up. Given that Mel is a big Hollywood power player, Oksana recorded him for proof and the safety of herself and her daughter.

You need to take another listen to the tapes, Lady, and realize that they are not realistic. People who are in a heated match of word usually are talking over each other…not allowing each other to finish their sentences….she is a Gold-digger.
People in a heated match of words in an abusive relationship talk over each other? I think you’re assuming an abusive relationship is one like any other. J’s point (with which I totally agree) is that unless you’ve been in the situation, it’s very hard to judge the behaviour of a victim of abuse (maybe she used to talk over him until she learned that gets him more riled up). I have no idea what’s really going on between these two people, but I am really surpised and alarmed by how much victim-blaming is going on here.
I think that she is calm because she needs to be, if you have never been on her end of that type of relationship then you have no idea what it feels like, YOU CAN NOT FIGHT BACK, IT MAKES IT WORSE. All she COULD do was listen to him and NOT HANG UP. Do i think maybe she set him up, probably a little, that being said, even if she set teh whole conversation up to get him to flip out, so she had some proof about how abusive he was/is(even if it is just emotional, which i get the feeling this is more then that). It doesn’t matter what her reactions were or whether they meet your expectation.
If he said those things, if he did those things, if he’s screaming racist comments, sexist comments, violent comments they are entirely his own responsibility. He’s a grown man. He governs himself. It’s on him if he is a racist and a misogynist, an alcoholic, or an abuser. He’s the only one in control of his own behavior. Him. And what he’s displaying is disgusting.
There are many forms of abuse besides shouting matches. Sometimes the silent treatment or freezing someone out or withholding intimacy can be a form of abuse as well. Watch the movie Gaslight and you’ll see how the abuser in that movie used well placed silences and “calmness” as a way to make the victim seem irrational or overly emotional. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening in this case, but it could be used in such a way.
She is calm because she knows she is recording the exchange. I imagine she is quite different when she is not taped. However, since Mel doesn’t know he is being taped, he is being himself: A really nasty drunk.

Whatever her flaws are, that does not excuse Mel’s behavior. It’s not as though he didn’t do/say any of the things he’s accused of, and has been set up to look like he did. Like the other posters have pointed out, merely going to the police and accusing him of hitting her wouldn’t do her much good, because it would only be her word against his. And we all know that Mel has more than enough money to hire powerful lawyers that would get him off the hook easy. Oksana’s only advantage over him is taping the evidence. It still amazes me that people are quick to blame the victim rather than realize the seriousness at the culprit’s actions (I’m looking at you, Whoopi Goldberg).
