The Associated Press reports that Mel Gibson has been targeted as the subject of a domestic violence investigation opened by the L.A. Sheriff’s Department. In a news release, the Sheriff’s Department states the alleged attack occurred Jan. 6, and that the alleged victim is the actor’s ex-fiancĂ©, Oksana Grigorieva. No other details are known at this time. Gibson’s rep has not yet issued a response to the matter.
Summit Entertainment, the studio behind Gibson’s next film, The Beaver, says the investigation won’t alter the movie’s marketing schedule, as a release date has not yet been set. “We will not focus on any marketing efforts until we know when the film will be released,” a rep from the studio told EW. Icon Productions, the studio behind Gibson’s How I Spent My Summer Vacation, have no comment.

Any bets that The Beaver will not get a theatrical release? I like Jodie Foster and can appreciate what she did for a friend in need, but dang! No good deed goes unpunished, I guess.
He just comes across as a horrible human being. I was never a fan in the first place but this last bit of info coming to light us too much to put aside and watch whatever character he portrays on the big screen.
Very rarely does an actor do something so horrible that makes him unwatchable. This latest fiasco will. Abusing women is unforgivable. I can forgive his stupidity when it comes to his prejudices, but never, ever lay a hand on a woman. Same goes with Charlie Sheen.
I agree with you that it is unforgivable, but Sheen will probably still have the number one sitcom next year and Chris Brown still has a career…
But I think Chris Brown doesn’t have nearly the career he once did, thankfully. And Sheen gets a way with a lot because its always been known what he’s like, whether that’s right or not. Gibson has had a much larger fall from grace. Its my hope the creep never crawls back out of the gutter.
The difference between CB and Mel is that CB only did it once – Mel has done it repeatedly. I’m not excusing it, because, for a while, I really didn’t like CB, but I was just stating the difference.
“Tha Phoenix,” what leads you to believe Mr. Brown physically abused a women just the one time?
It’s the only time he got caught.
Wait, you can forgive prejudices? Wow. I’m glad you never had the opportunity to help a Jew in the 1930′s in Poland or an African American in the American south 80 years earlier. Would you have stood by and watched?
WHACKy story….
Yes, Mike, and not only did he hit her, but it was while she was holding their baby. He is f***ing DISGUSTING!!
The Beaver? Ward ain’t gonna like this behavior, has Mel been hanging out with Eddie Haskell?
But he’s a Christian; he made a movie about Jeebus. How can this be true?
Yeah. He’s a Christian all right…from what I know of them, Mel’s behavior is pretty typical of most ‘Christians’…
How exactly is your statement about Christians any different than someone saying, “well what can you expect from Chris Brown, everybody knows those blacks are just a bunch of violent thugs.” That kind of statement would be reprehensible and so is yours. Prejudice is prejudice.
If “Christian” means you are Christ-like, most “Christians” are anything but.
I am a Christian because Christ is first in my life. I am a sinner. I need forgiveness. I don’t know where MG’s heart is but I know when we repent and we are forgiven and we are loved. We aren’t healed of our errors immediately. It is going to take me my whole earthly life and I still won’t have it right. Thank you God that my getting it right isn’t what it takes for me to get into heaven.
Pretty sure he’s the proverbial Christian in name only, as many “Christians” are. Judging from what I know about his special brand of Catholicism, he uses his religion as a tool to control others and prop himself up, as the best bullies are wont to do.
Haven’t you learned anything from the never ending stream of Vatican cover ups of hundreds of priests worldwide molesting young boys? I’d bet my jewels a greater percentage of Agnostics and Atheists would get into heaven by deeds alone than people who are vocal of their faith.
Accurate or not, Hollywood is in a constant struggle with the rest of the country about being in touch with the common person. Mel Gibson needs to be treated in Tinseltown the same as he would in any town in the rest of our nation. Bigotry, misogyny, and antisemitism are not acceptable.
“Hollywood is in a constant struggle with the rest of the country about being in touch with the common person.”
Case in point, the Hollywood community’s misguided backing of Roman Polanski. That still makes my blood boil.
No, I don’t fvgrioe Mel. Nor do I fvgrioe Roman. He did not have sex with an underage girl, he drugged and raped an underage girl. And yes, I am a liberal.
mel gibson you rock!!! your my fav actor!! go mel!!! buck the haters!
Before this last blast of nastiness, I think he was on the brink of full-on Hollywood forgiveness. It’s too bad–he really is a very talented man. Even during the height of the original deluge of problem behavior, while I could never personally like or forgive him, I gave Apocalypto a chance based on respect for his past works alone (I can usually separate my dislike for the person from their work–been doing it for Tom Cruise for a good long time). It was a lot better than I thought it would be–very interesting and though provoking. But now…he could probably make the best movie ever filmed and I wouldn’t ever bother with it.
Let’s not be so quick to believe the Russian home-wrecker – not that Mel isn’t also guilty of adultery. But face facts: extortion is the Russian way of life.
But face facts, you’re making gross generalizations about a very serious allegation.
yeah, I’m not buying it. hard to believe that after 20+ years of marriage we heard nary a peep about abuse from his first wife; she left him after decades of alcohol abuse and infidelity. I think this Russian lady knows exactly what she’s doing, and probably targeted him from the start. Having his baby ties her to his bank account for a good 18 years, and this abuse charge is gonna insure even more money pads her bank account, as well as her lawyer’s.
Or you could recognize that an abuse allegation, much less one with evidence caught on tape to back it up, is something to be taken very seriously, especially when the perpetrator is a highly influential, wealthy, and connected man. You could take it seriously that an alcoholic, anti-Semitic, egomaniacal Hollywood bully might just have abused his pregnant wife, or you could automatically dismiss her on the basis of her socioeconomic status prior to meeting Gibson. What people always refuse to realize is, even if her reasons for marrying him weren’t purely “true love”, it takes two to tango with this social climbing busines; he CHOSE to marry a foreign, unheard of, aspiring singer, who would probably stroke his ego whenever he wanted her to, and you can’t tell me he didn’t know exactly what this was. He WANTED that power imbalance in the relationship. And just because she probably has a character failing that attracted her to a man mostly because he was charismatic and powerful, doesn’t mean she and her unborn baby deserved to be beaten up, you douche.
It’s amazing how everyone acts like judge and jury in this situation. So I might as well put in my 2 cents worth. Often a man is so dumb in an argument that he can only with an altercation. On the other hand, it may be that they deserve each other. As Marx said, the difference between a wife and a prostitute is that the later charges you by the hour, whereas the for – for the rest of your life. But that was said because divorces and alimony were prevalent. Still, I think Dumb Mel got the better deal: they guy who gets a woman for money always gets the better – just because the woman only gets money (think about that).
After 20+ years of marriage, he chose to lay down with this Russian lady and have her baby. Besides as someone else pointed out it was all caught on tape.
Wow, if this is true it’s extremely troubling and disappointing. I hope he’s treated the same as an average Joe would be when charged with the same crime (although, unlikely). Usually, I can separate an artist’s personal life from his work, but with Gibson it becomes increasingly difficult (i.e. Passion of the Christ).
I am a fan of Mel. Mostly the Lethal Weapon movies, but this is ridiculous. I don’t think his acting career is going to come back from all of this. He may be able to get some directing gigs, but I think he is done. Nobody wants to spend their money on an abusive alcholic anymore. I hope he has to pay like any other person.
This is only a part of the tape. There are other parts that made me
see that Mel is NOT a monster but a guy who is feeling a lot of
regret and pain. Does anyone really care about what Mel is feeling? It is very obvious that he made a big mistake getting together with Oksana! She is a “gold digger” who doesn’t love him and now he’s got a young daughter to consider. People, ease up on Mel. He needs a good
friend right now.
