After a four-week investigation, Multnomah County, Oregon District Attorney Michael Schrunk has dropped the sexual harassment case against former Vice President Al Gore, citing insufficient evidence. Masseuse Molly Hagerty alleged that Gore had groped and assaulted her in 2006 in a Portland hotel room. In a statement, the D.A.’s office cited “contradictory evidence, conflicting witness statements, credibility issues, lack of forensic evidence and denials by Mr. Gore.” Gore, who participated in the investigation, released this statement through his spokeswoman Kalee Kreider: “Mr. Gore unequivocally and emphatically denied this accusation when he first learned of its existence three years ago. He respects and appreciates the thorough and professional work of the Portland authorities and is pleased that this matter has now been resolved.” [AP]

Sandra Bullock has second thoughts about Gulf oil spill video

Categories: Movie Biz

A spokeswoman for Sandra Bullock says the Oscar-winning actress wants her scenes in a video promoting Gulf Coast restoration removed until she learns whether oil companies influenced it. According to the Associated Press, Bullock had second thoughts about her involvement after the website DeSmogBlog called the campaign an industry push to get support for drilling and taxpayer money to repair wetland damage caused by the BP oil spill. The producers of the video, Women of the Storm, denies that the video was funded by oil companies.

The statement from Bullock’s publicist reads:

“Ms. Bullock was originally contacted through her attorney to be a part of the PSA in order to promote awareness of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At no time was she made aware that any organization, oil company or otherwise had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked for her participation in the PSA be removed until the facts can be determined. Her commitment to the Gulf region has been apparent for many years and she will continue to pursue opportunities that will bring awareness and support to the plight of the Gulf region.”
