Ratings: World Cup scores record numbers; Daytime Emmys lukewarm

Saturday’s World Cup match between the U.S. and Ghana delivered record ratings for ABC and Univision, which both aired the game. The game was seen by a whopping 19.4 million viewers between the two networks, and was the most watched soccer game ever in the U.S., beating the previous record of 18.1 million for the 1994 Italy/Brazil final match.

Meanwhile, things were more lukewarm for CBS’ airing of the Daytime Emmys last night. The awards show was only watched by 5.6 million viewers, which was still a boost from last year’s ceremony which aired on The CW.

Jennifer Capriati recovering from drug overdose

A spokeswoman for Jennifer Capriati confirms to the AP that the former top-ranked tennis player was rushed to the hospital on Sunday after an “accidental overdose” of prescription drugs (the news was first reported by TMZ). The spokeswoman says the 34-year-old is stable and a full recovery is expected. The type of medication was not revealed.  Capriati’s tennis career, which includes three Grand Slam singles titles in 2001-02 and a Gold Medal in the 1992 Olympics, has been hampered by personal issues. She was arrested in 1993 for shoplifting and again in 1994 for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

'Futurama' return nets record ratings

Futurama‘s June 24 return to the small screen garnered record ratings for Comedy Central. According to the network, the animated show attracted 2.9 million viewers total, making it the highest-rated and most-watched animated series premiere — with the exception of South Park — for Comedy Central. The series was also Thursday’s highest-rated show among men 18-34.

Daytime Emmys 2010: 'Bold and the Beautiful' takes best drama

CBS soap The Bold and the Beautiful won best drama for the second year in a row at Sunday night’s 37th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Fellow CBS sudser As the World Turns, which taped its final episode last week, dominated acting categories, earning awards for lead drama actor (Michael Park), lead drama actress (Maura West), and supporting actress (Julie Pinson). Michael Jackson's glove sells for $190,000 at auction

Fans of Michael Jackson snapped up some high-profile King of Pop memorabilia at a Las Vegas auction this weekend, including the iconic Swarovski crystal-studded glove from his 1984 Victory Tour, which sold for an eye-popping $190,000. According to E!, many pieces on the block brought in much more than was anticipated; the glove, for example, was only expected to fetch $20,000-$30,000. Other items sold at the auction, which took place in honor of the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death, included a “Beat It” jacket that went for $132,000 and a pair of loafers worn on stage by the pop superstar that went for $90,000, about 30-45 times the price at which they were appraised.

Mena Suvari marries in Italy

Actress Mena Suvari was married today in Italy, her publicist confirms to EW.com. The 31-year-old costar of American Beauty and American Pie, wed concert producer Simone Sestito, 25, in Vatican City. Suvari’s first marriage, to cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, ended in divorce in 2006.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar files divorce papers

Mark-Paul Gosselaar filed for divorce last week, citing irreconcilable differences and officializing his separation from Lisa Ann Russell, People reports. The papers were submitted on June 18, two weeks after the former Saved By the Bell star and Russell, his wife of 14 years, announced their intentions to split. The couple has two children.

Jennifer Hudson will talk about her family tragedy in an upcoming 'Behind the Music'

In a new episode of VH1′s Behind the Music, Jennifer Hudson will talk about her early years and her rise to fame on American Idol, and she’ll address the murders of her mother, brother, and nephew for the first time publicly. The three were killed in Chicago at the end of the 2008. The episode airs Monday, June 28 at 10 p.m.
