'Hair' to close on Broadway

Categories:

The Tony award-winning Hair revival will be closing its doors, according to a press release from the producers. The final performance will take place July 27 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre “having recouped [the show's] entire investment and generating a profit,” the release reads. The revival began three years ago as a free performance in Central Park, and won the Tony last year for Best Revival of a Musical. Ticket sales, however, had dropped after the original cast left Broadway in early March to perform the show on London’s West End — in February, Hair, under the original cast, was playing above 80 percent capacity; the show played at 47 percent capacity for the week ending May 31. (The show currently stars American Idol alums Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young). Audiences can still see the production after July 27, when it heads out on its first national tour in October.

Globe Magazine publishes Gary Coleman deathbed photo

Categories:

A photo of Gary Coleman lying unconscious on his hospital deathbed has been published on the cover of tabloid magazine The Globe. Pictured next to Coleman is his ex-wife, Shannon Price, who is facing the camera. Price and Coleman divorced in 2008 but were still living together in Utah at the time of his death last month. CNN reports that the executor of the actor’s will, longtime friend and former manager Dion Mial, accuses Price of selling the photo in an “ongoing desperate attempt” to profit from his death.

“These actions simply illuminate and magnify the truth that our gift of free will may, ultimately, relegate us to a long life of bondage and imprisonment that the life of a social and professional outcast, indeed, will bring,” Mial tells CNN. “May God bless Miss Price and her ‘free will.’”

Price’s publicist responded with a statement: “Dion, who claims to be a good friend of Gary, would know that Gary’s only wishes were to make sure that Shannon would be OK after he was gone,” the statement said. “So if Dion was a good friend he would be assisting Shannon, not taking all her money, to pay for his attorney and then use it to take everything from her.”

Coleman died on May 28 from a brain hemorrhage after falling at his Utah home. Coleman had signed an advanced health care directive giving permission to make any medical decision on his behalf to Price, who has said that she took Coleman off life support when she learned he would’ve been left in a vegetative state.
