Image Credit: Kevin Scanlon/Getty ImagesJudd Apatow is developing a new feature film about Pee-wee Herman, actor Paul Reubens’ joyfully spastic alter-ego, according to Variety. Reubens is writing the script with actor-writer Paul Rust (I Love You, Beth Cooper), which Apatow will produce but not direct. Pee-wee has been enjoying a resurgence of late, thanks to Reubens’ Los Angeles revival of the original 1981 stage show that first launched the character, which is set to move to Broadway for a limited run starting in previews Oct 26. Reubens has been open about his hope that the new stage production would help build enough buzz for a new Pee-wee movie; he said in EW earlier this year that he had already written two screenplays.

YAAAAAY!!!!! My son and I will be going to see his Broadway show in October. We loved watching his Saturday morning show each week, and really enjoyed his movies. We wore the Halloween costumes, played with all of the oy characters and the Pee Wee Playhouse, and were membes of the Pee Wee FUN Club. My son is now 24 years old, and we have great memories. We look forward to more from the talented Paul Reubens!! Thank you Judd Apatow for working with him. My son and I were also fans of your “gone too soon” “Freaks and Geeks”"
corrections to above comment–toy characters, not “oy”, and members of his Fun club. P.S. I saved an unopened Pee Wee Playhouse for the future. It seemed so unique and special, and Malcom Forbes once said, “Save your children’s toys as an investment”
goddamn, Judd Apatow is awesome
Pee Wee is lookin OLD. When he was doing the talk show circuit to promote his stage show, the high def camera was definitely not working in his favor. I think it is time to hang up the high waters and little red bowtie.
I just lost a little respect for Judd Apatow! Isn’t PeeWee a little too creepy given what we all know about Paul Reubens?
Pey-Wey! Pey-Wey! Bring back Burton to direct.
That would be beyond awesomeness. I love Judd Apatow–Burton would just make my nerd heart explode. Maybe he’d do it for the nostalgia of it all.
