I Live in New Mexico, there is really not a lot to do if you are not an outdoors person. So having said that, there is a lot of drinking, especially underage drinking here. I know that that problem is everywhere. But I used to live in California and it wasnt as bad as it is here. So in a way I understand the comments, plus NM needs to get over it, those comments were made along time ago and Val doesn’t even remember saying them.
WOW! C’mon now these are the craziest comments I’ve ever seen! Judy you should do some research before you say anything about Val’s comments. He does happen to be right & I suggest you research it if you’re still in unbelief! He has a right, a “freedom of speech” right to comment. I personally if I were Val would NOT go before any board for practicing my rights to free speech! …..And NM if you don’t like his comments then clean your act up, leaving no room for derogatory comments. Last but not least if the shoe fits, wear it. As with any town/city not all fall under the drunk/crime catagory.

I’ve been through NM, diagonally from 4 Corners and down. Most desolate state I’ve ever gone through – and this was in September 20 years ago. Went back later to see the Carlsbad Caverns; the state itself hasn’t changed from desolation… Now watch, in 7 years, if I have to move there, someone will ask me about THIS comment…
Judy needs a little medication to take care of that hyperreligiosity disorder she has going in full swing. Either that, or she will be making headlines herself one day – the kind where all the neighbors say how nice and quite they thought the person was and how they kept to themself and never caused anybody any trouble.
Having lived in NM, but also in 4 other states and vacationing in most of the US, I am sick of hearing negative statements about NM. Yes, they have problems, but you will find a county or city in every state with similar statistics. Yes, some areas of NM have dreadful statistics. How about your state? I can think of areas in every state I’ve ever been to that should be criticized.

You know, I rarely ever look at the readers’ comments to news stories (although I’m not sure this qualifies as one) because they’re usually people with too much time on their hands and too little to say, but these posts are absolutely hilarious!!
Matthew, I’m with you there! I too am a NM resident and I agree completely with Val Kilmer; this has got to be the murder capital of the world if not darn near close! If you dont live here, don’t comment! Theres at least one murder per day in Albuquerque alone if not more, numerous violent crimes, drive-by shootings in every area of town, parents fatally beating/shooting or stabbing babies during domestic violence disputes, – and as for DUI the local paper has two-sided pages of pictures of DUI REPEAT offenders every Sunday- people that literally offend within days of previous offences; and this is people of ALL ages, races, genders! Governor said during his campaign: “You drink, you drive, you lose” thats a farce…its more like, “you drink, you drive, you drink, you drive, you drink you drive and it keeps going from there” and worse, if you’re a cop or a friend thereof, you get a free ticket home – not liable for the law you just broke or the law you were sworn-in to uphold. Just recently after a shooting rampage at a local restaurant during sunday morning breakfast, one of the suspects who has a long violent record was asked why he relocated to Abq., he matter-of-factly answered, “Because you can get away with anything in this state”. There is nothing to do in Albuquerque but drink, eat and gamble (therefore you’re either fat, drunk and/or bankrupt) – there are no family oriented activities that is why a high percentage of juveniles are in trouble with the law if not already incarcerated! People are rude in this town, be careful not to accidentally stare at somebody in the next car at a stoplight or God forbid you accidentally pull out in front of another vehicle, drive too slow/too fast/change lanes – it has been known that people have been followed and/or shot for such a minor infraction. We live here, we know! It’s so unfortunate that some of us want so badly to move away and find a place that offers some quality of life but for various reasons we’re stuck, but unless you live here you really have no place to talk. Matthew, I don’t even think its nice to drive through, in fact its been unfortunately proven to be fatal in recent past.

Try getting out a little more, Joanna. There is plenty to do in Albuquerque that doesn’t involve drinking and gambling if you bother to read local Web sites, a newspaper that isn’t the Journal or actually bother to get involved. And please check your statistics. Yes, our murder rate is 1.42 times the national average but there is nowhere near one murder a day in Albuquerque. We had 56 murders in 2009. Unless my math is all kinds of wacky, that doesn’t equal one murder per day. I agree that 56 is too high but newsflash, mid-size and big cities everywhere have crime. It’s not just here.

All I can say is wow. Judy, I’m pretty sure GOD doesn’t hate anyone. And Val Kilmer has had more success than failure. He made a comment he didn’t commit murder so Yea I think GOD still loves him. You can thank BP for your oil spill.

I have to admit New Mexico is not the greatest place to live but there are some very Beautiful places here in the state. Being born and raised here it does hurt to see all these comments but I do see everyones point. None the less Val Kilmer said what he said and thats that. So what!!! Come on 7 years later get over it already. I make bad comments all the time as im sure everyone does why should one man pay the price for the truth. What kind of country do we live in and has freedom of speech been thrown to the pigs to slop on. Get a grip New Mexico and focus on more important issues like the crime rate, DUIs,etc.. This is very petty and another prime example of a waste of time and taxpayers money.

I am pretty sure that in John 3:16 it states, “That God so loved the world-THE WORLD- that he gave his only begotten son.” And I do believe that it was Jesus that said he would rather sit with the tax collectors and sinners for those are the ones that need him the most not the just. The unjust are the ones God is looking for. So if you are going to quote on the bible or talk like you know the bible then you had better make sure that you know what you are talking about. Because the bible also does state that blasphemy is a sin and by not correctly quoting the bible is considered blasphemy. And as far as Justin Bieber being the 2nd coming, where do you come from-Jupiter? Because that is far from believable. the 2nd coming will come but not in our life time, Sorry to tell you.
