'Today' releases statement about Matt Lauer affair allegations

Matt Lauer has already spoken out against rumors of a split with wife Annette, but his employer, NBC’s Today, is also responding to allegations regarding Lauer’s rumored infidelity. “The allegations surrounding Matt Lauer are completely inaccurate and unfounded,” Today said in a statement. “These accusations are reckless and harmful to the Lauer family. Equally reckless, irresponsible, and inaccurate are the accusations about his Today show colleagues. Matt and his wife have spoken out on this on the record and will not be discussing it further.”

this all reeks a bit of he/she “doth protest too much.” does everyone these two work with/see/share air space with have to REASSURE THE WORLD that their marriage is safe?

  • Eldrick

I love how NBC refuese to shine a light on Lauer’s alleged infidelity but when it comes to Tiger Woods, they wallow in the mud like the rest of the media pigs. HYPOCRITES!

Tiger’s infidelity is proven, Lauer’s is not.

Matt Lauer’s private life is his business. BUT, lately, the Today Show has been closer to a tabloid show than usual with many more celebrity type “reporting” than usual. So, yes, Tiger’s infidelity was proven, but they were more than eager to jump on that salacious bandwagon, just as they do with other celebrities who are only in tabloids, but without any proof of what is printed. Why does his employer havt to say something anyway. If they want it to disappear, they should all shut up.

    • Yes

If people would stop caring about it, no one would report it. There are weekly magazines that make their money from this kind of crap. I think it’s hard for people to stand up for themselves. If they don’t say anything – people assume it’s true, if they deny – then they must be hiding something. They can’t win.
The only people who win are the magazines that pay for any sleazy tidbit because their circulation goes up.

Totally agree with Eldrick. The Today Show was discussing Tiger’s infidelities well before they were confirmed, and usually in the first half-hour of their broadcast — like the rumors were hard news. It’s a double-standard that Matt and Tiki Barber aren’t getting the same treatment.

  • WTF

Meanwhile, who would want to %$#& Matt Lauer?

    • Alice

I would. And would definitely pick Lauer over Tiger or some of the other SOBs who have recently been accused of cheating!

This is what the Today Show gets for giving tabloids creditability. NBC needs to stop having tabloid writers on their shows.

Today Showis slipping. Playing to the lowest common denominator. That woman with the kids who was on DWTS, Tiger, all of it. Tabloid sleaze and very disappointing. I’ve been a long time fan…

If you are going to throw mud, eventually you will get dirty too. It is unfortunate that the Today Show has participated in exploiting the affairs, alleged and otherwise, and should expect to have the microscope turned on themselves if these are to be their standards.

certainly like your website but you have to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very troublesome to tell the reality then again I will surely come back again.
