Two dogs belonging to John Travolta were struck and killed by a service truck at an airport in Maine last Thursday, the Bangor Daily News reports. The city released the following statement detailing the accident: “At approximately 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010, an airplane carrying members of the John Travolta family landed at [Bangor International Airport]. While there, two small dogs were taken for a walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the airplane and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs were struck and killed. The airport is investigating the accident. Out of respect for the family’s privacy the city will make no further comment.”
An official at the airport explained that the news was not released sooner because it is policy to not comment on the identity of passengers traveling through the facility. The Bangor Daily News learned of the accident after obtaining an email sent by the Bangor Interim City Manager to the nine city councilors. It is unknown if charges will be filed or whether the dogs were on leashes before they were struck.

Geez…as if this poor family has not suffered enough. My heart breaks for them! Tragic…
yeah! poor family. they could use a charmic break from tragedy.
Yeah I agree, that is just piling on at this point. A really freaky occurence.
Jeez, that family can’t get a break in terms of the things that matter most (family not fame nor money.)
Yeah…that’s a GREAT place to walk dogs…an active runway tarmac.
Is this really news. Walking dogs on a tarmac is just plane stupid. Were they on a leash? Anyway, more important things going on in the world for this to be news.
Um, Trish? You do realize you’re reading this from an entertainment webiste right? Of course there are more important things going on in the world, you just wouldn’t read about them here.
If you’re going to call someone stupid, please spell “plain” right.
Maybe she was making pun
I might be beaintg a dead horse, but thank you for posting this!
What kind of dogs were they?
There’s more important things going on in the world than reading ew.com for that matter so what’s your point since you are obviously here already?
Don’t tell me you came here looking for news, or anything more substantial than fluff pieces.
Do you know where you are??
Then why are YOU here reading ew.com? What a moron.
This wasn’t the airport’s fault. It’s just the consequence of irresponsible dog ownership. Keep your dogs on a leash, and don’t let them run around on any type of roadway, including a tarmac, especially after dark. I hate to see animals come to harm because their owners failed to take care of them. And I feel bad for the driver who has to live with the fact that he accidentally killed the dogs.
Amy, you’re an awful person.
Really? Because I believe that when you adopt a pet you should do all you can to protect its life and not put it in danger? Yes, that is awful.
I kind of agree with Amy. It sounds as if the dogs were not leashed. Or if they were, the person walking them was not paying attention or just didn’t care.
You two have absolutely no idea what the facts are. Meanwhile, I am aware of the fact that Amy casts judgment without facts. Pretty solid basis for determining she’s awful. Do you have any comment about what the Travolta’s should have done differently to not lose their son? After all, if a child dies, surely the parents must be at fault since the child is in their charge until its eighteenth year.
The Travoltas can’t walk their own dogs?
To bring up wether they were on a leash or not, lets me know that they were on a leash. If the dogs were loose, the odds of them both standing/sitting still while letting a truck run them over, are small. Tarmac trucks aren’t going 60 miles an hour. I believe they were tied to something or in cages crushed. NOW how long before some right-wing evangelical christians blame this on their equally nutty religion of Scientology?
I hate that Xenu-slave. But I feel terrible about the loss of his son and now his pets.
A rough couple of years for the Travoltas, wow. Enough to make you never wanna leave the house again!
When I read the headline “John Travolta’s Dogs killed at Maine airport” I thought perhaps someone destroyed copies of “Look Who’s Talking” and “Battlefield Earth.”
WHAT! Look Who’s Talking was totally classic!
Karma. Maybe Zenu or whatever that volcano god is can take care of them. It’s all karma.
Whatever your opinion is, or who is at fault, please keep in mind the heatbreak that everyone is suffering. I recently lost two dogs on the same day following a routine vet visit. One had conjestive heart failure for awhile and the vet set time to let go, and the other one had a seizure at the vet office and died. I went to the vet with 3 dogs and came home with one! This was a month ago, and I still cry everyday. Losing one is hard but two is the worst!!
Those poor dogs. People suck.
