The United States Supreme Court said today that it will not hear an appeal by Cablevision against the Federal Communications Commission’s requirement that cable companies carry all broadcast television stations. According to Reuters, Cablevision had argued that the FTC’s 1992 law should be repealed as a result of the “vigorous competition” in the cable industry. The court did not issue a comment on why it was siding with the FCC; other cable companies such as Time Warner had supported Cablevision’s stance.

“Vigorous Competition”? Really? Tell me where I can find these competitors ’cause, like most, I think my cable company’s robbing me blind. Feels just like the good ol’ days of Ma Bell. I think their ad slogan was: Where else ya gonna go?
Satellite TV. Before you say anything, I know, I know… I was a dish hater all my life, never saw the need for it when cable service was always fine.
Then one day I moved. Now I am getting everything my cable provider would have charged me around $250 a month for, for around $80-90 a month.
I am such an idiot for giving all my money to cable tv all those years. Damn my stubbornness
Yeah my brother made the switch to Satellite TV in his apartment. Then he lost his signal during the Super Bowl.
We’ve had satellite for years. Ever since the NFL network/Time Warner mess. Dh is a huge football fanatic. Anyway, we live in the sticks where it rains all the time, and we have lost our signal maybe twice.
“Lost his signal during the Super Bowl”??
hmm…. for how long? My guess is a couple seconds, tops. It happens from time to time. But for a savings of $170 a month, it is well worth it.
Every time I see my satellite picture go grainy for a second or two (it always clears up) I pat my wallet and say “Thank you satellite TV”
The money I save from swithing to Dish TV now pays my car payment.
I look at it this way: I switched to dish TV, got a free car.
Unless you have money to burn, there is no reason to pay anything to a cable company, period.
Yeah, and what happens if there’s bad weather during that football game, huh?
@East Coaster–There have been plenty of games during bad weather, haven’t lost signal yet. As a matter of fact, we had a much worse time with cable outages. I was completely against DirecTV, I swear. I fought against it for years before I finally agreed to get it. It has been a great experience, and DirecTV’s customer service is miles above TWC’s. Granted, we didn’t do it for the savings (we get the Sunday Ticket during football), but overall, it is still cheaper than our cable bill offseason.
You’re obviously lucky, cause I used to have DirecTV, and a light drizzle was enough to throw off my signal. Granted, Cablevision is worse in other ways…
Who cares! My girlfriend think same as me. She is 100 years older (he he) – I go to olderthanmolasses . com to find her. You go too and maybe get good.
had directv when it first came out lost signal during rain storms the new satalites helped . went to dishnetwork abouts 6 years ago love the vip 922 best dvr yet. better then directv
