I will always see you on the re-runs of “Sandford & Son, you will always be missed. No more “Stormy Weather” where you are at. You will always be in my heart. Peace and love.
Lena Horne was on Sandford & Son? Really?

Rest in peace, Lena. You will be missed tremendously and thanks for your music contribution to us all.
She had a long and seemingly wonderful life, however I am still saddened by her death. This is a major loss as I admired her grace, class, beauty and talent so much. I
R.I.P.Lena
Having the real name Stormy was not easy as a child. Strangers, upon learning my name, sang to me the miriad of songs with Stormy in them, but none struck a chord within my heart quite like Lena’s “Stormy Weather”. The soulful voice Ms. Horne possessed broke barriers with just a single note, thus also breaking the barrier I personally fought many years against with having an unusual name. As I grew in age (and maybe a small amount of wisdom), I found that a name isn’t just really a name. It’s a journey, often riddled with many “storms” in which one may find solace right straight in the middle of the eye of those “storms”. Ms. Horne was a beauty, only to be outdone by her heart and soul through her lyrics and melody of life. I wish to thank Lena Horne’s friends and family for helping her share her heart, especially with a song I truly cherish just because of a “name”.

More than an entertainer Ms. Lena was one of the many pioneers to help tear down some of the walls of racism. As a member of the USO Lena was performing for our troops in Europe during WWII. Black troops were made to sit in the back, white troops up front. They brought some German prisoners of war to see Lena perform and allowed them in front of our own black troops. Lena went to the black troops and performed with her back to the white troops The USO fired her as a ‘trouble maker’. RIP Lena!
