Bret Michaels gives first interview to People; says he's 'lucky to be alive'

Filed under: News and tagged: ,

Bret Michaels has given his first interview since suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage on April 21 to People magazine. In the issue out Friday, Michaels talks about his brush with death, and tells the magazine that he feels “lucky to be alive.” The rocker says doctors asked him if he had children upon arriving at the hospital: “And I said these exact words, ‘Am I dying? If I’m dying, I want to see my kids, but if I have a chance, I don’t want them to see me in this condition.” (Michaels has two daughters: Raine, 9, and Jorja, 5.) Michaels — who is expected to make a full recovery — is currently staying at a rehabilitation center for physical therapy.

Since Celebrity Apprentice, I have grown to like Bret a lot. I see that he is a concerned father who really seems to love his kids. I hope that he has many years with them.

I hope that Bret uses this second chance to be an inspiration to his two beautiful girls. Stop doing these stupid Vh1 skank shows and do something worthwhile. I would not be surprised that part of his reason for wanting to live is because he will be the winner of celebrity apprentice. I’m glad we did not have to read about him dying because of this, be happy Bret. Appreciate what you have and be a good father.
