Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio was named the top chef of 2010 by the James Beard Foundation at a ceremony held in New York City tonight. The Beard awards — which, according to the AP, are the “Oscars of the food world” — recognize up to 10 years of work. Colicchio has been a finalist for the big prize seven times, and won Beard awards in the past including best chef in NYC, outstanding service, and best cookbook (for his 2001 Think Like a Chef).

Oh! I didnt know you could win that award with a sandwich!
How rude!? He owns eateries other than ‘wichcraft! Craft in New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Atlanta.
Craftbar in New York City, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
Colicchio & Sons New York City
Craftsteak in Connecticut and Las Vegas.
Guess he won for something at one of them!
He should also win the hottest bald chef award
I second that. He’s a big slice of yummy. He’s welcome to my kitchen (and bedroom!) anytime.
Now i’m imagining him as a sandwich..yum!
Horray for Tom! Love him! He’s the best part of Top Chef.
Y’all ever see a Pop-Tart deconstruction?
I went to craftsteak in Las Vegas and it was the most amazing food of my LIFE. I’m a huge foodie but the quality and flavor blew me away. Even small details were carefully watched. He is obviously a chef that cares about every detail and takes a lot of pride and passion in his work. I think he is very deserving of this award. I don’t know that I’ll ever have a meal as amazing as the one i had at Craftsteak again.
I ate there a few weeks ago and I absolutely agree with everything you said.
I skipped Craftsteak last time I was in Vegas because I thought, “what can they do with a fancy steakhouse that I haven’t already seen?” Now you make me regret that decision!
Chef Tom has done more for the public enjoyment and awareness of elite cooking than most. His weekly blog of Top Chef (when it’s “in season”) is thoughtful and insightful. While I have yet to savor his gastronomy, I appreciate this award for his dedication to his art. Congratulations, Chef.
Tom I am in remission with cancer and have a great recipe for spaghetti sauce that was pass down and added to by that last Three generations.
I have nobody to pass this onto except you and would be honnored if you would take it, can I send it to you in an other way.
It will blow you mind.
