Conan O’Brien wasn’t the only celebrity to break his silence today: Roman Polanski has spoken out for the first time since his September arrest, claiming his imprisonment in Switzerland is unfair, People reports. (Polanski is awaiting possible extradition to the United States.) A statement from the director — who faces unlawful sex with a minor charges from a 1977 crime — printed on a French magazine’s website reads, “I have decided to break my silence in order to address myself directly to you without any intermediaries and in my own words. I have had my share of dramas and joys, as we all have, and I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life. I ask only to be treated fairly like everyone else.”
The director believes authorities in the U.S. are trying to extradite him purely for publicity, and “to serve me on a platter to the media of the world.” “I can remain silent no longer because I have been placed under house arrest in Gstaad…and because I am far from my family and unable to work.”
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office is keeping mum: “We will withhold comment until the Swiss make a decision on his fugitive status.”

I can’t WAIT until he finally DOES get treated like every other pedophile/sex offender, and serves an actual sentence.
Word.
From what I’ve read, this guy (if he ever gets sent back to the USA) will only be getting around 2-3 years in jail. For statutory rape, he should be getting a lot more than that. He should consider himself lucky. Cry me a river, Polanski…
“I am not going to try to ask you to pity my lot in life. I ask only to be treated fairly like every other super-rich celebrity.”
It’s ridiculous for this coward to say he juts wants to be treated fairly. Imagine what what would have happened if most other people would get after having done what he did.
Ah yes…how hypocritical we can be: perhaps you are implying he should be treated as say hmmmmmm…what other SUPER-RICH CELEBRITY pervert was in our midst…(hint, his initials are M.J.) and yet (poor underprivileged boy that he was) everyone preferred to “turn a blind eye” and a “deaf ear” to HIS crimes and just leave HIM alone, all except the parents of HIS victims…parents who wanted to be BOUGHT OFF! F*** You and your pseudo morality! He (Polanski) is a “Foreigner” and a scape-goat! I would personally volunteer to go drag him back here myself, once all of you sanctimonious fools insist that O.J. gets what HE deserves! (and with Michael…I won’t even GO there…because HE is a F***in Saint now, am I right?)
Garth, If Polanski gets the charges dropped it will reinforce what you wrote about – that rich and famous people can get away with almost anything.
Unlike the other cases, Polanski admits his guilt. He just doesn’t want to be punished.
Double word. What a whiny, unrepentant egomaniac.
Egomaniac is right!
YES.
This scum need to rot in jail!
agreed! He had 30+ years of freedom, if he wanted fairness he should have stayed and faced his day in court years ago.
Totally agree!!!
NICE TRY, PEDO SCUM!
Hear, hear!
I totally agree.
Amen!
Sorry, I was responding to Trish – I couldn’t agree with her more. It’s time for Polanski to pay for his crime, just like every other regular American.
If he wanted to be treated fairly like everyone else, he would have gone to jail decades ago. Be quiet, you dirty old man.
Fo’realz. It just astounds me how pedophiles/sex offenders in particular always seem to see themselves as victims.
Agreed. If he wanted to be treated fairly, he shouldn’t have fled. I hope he sees the inside of a jail cell one day.
People who are familiar with the court system understand that a defendant will plead guilty to even sleeping with the judges wife to get a reduced sentence. Polanski would have agreed to any tale no matter how nasty. He surely had a 13 year old girl stay overnight with him, but a jury has not convicted him of any crime. The judge should have brought the case to trial, not cut a deal.
He took a plea of guilty on one charge to avoid all of the others. He is guilty even if a jury did not convict him. Just because he didn’t like how the judge altered the sentence doesn’t give him the right to skip out of the country and now say “Well, it has been a long time so why don’t we forget it and call it even?” Every other criminal convicted of a crime has to abide by the judge’s ruling so why should he be any different.
Err, no. Facts, please. He plied her with alcohol and drugs in a hot tub, with witnesses.
He’s 100% right. It is unfair to him to be imprisoned in his Swiss chalet.
He should be in a jail cell like every other child abusing creep.
Yes, to be stuck in an luxurious Swiss chalet is so unfair.
I only hope the judge doesn’t throw out the case, since the victim doesn’t seem to want to get into the court process.
No need to fear of them throwing the case out. He’s already been found GUILTY. He just evaded his sentencing (which in itself is ANOTHER crime). The man is vile.
the creep should have been put in jail years ago. He bought his victim off, no wonder she does not want to see him in jail. He’s had a pass for 30+ years, time to pay the piper. Welcome to Chino, Roman!
I can’t believe the gall of this man. He really thinks he deserves sympathy or fairness? He really thinks he’s been treated terribly? I don’t get his thought process, I really don’t.
Only in Hollywood can a pedophile portray himself as the victim.
The man is a child molester! He takes advantage of young teen-aged girls by getting them drunk and high and then bedding them down!! He figured back then and then again now his name in film would get him a free ticket to walk, why should it? Complaining about lock-down, ha ha that is a joke, if it were one of us we would not only be in jail but protective custody. I myself have been in jail before and had Judge Rittenband as a judge in a Santa Monica, CA. court room. After this guys case of course but none the less I doubt that judge made such a promise, Polanski got a 90 observation in Chino and then when returned obviously he failed and the psych’s involved in the observation recommended further time to be served, so instead he took his money and ran. Our court system doesn’t need him for publicity, other folks in the Industry are feeding plenty of that and no longer getting the results they use to get. You break the law and get caught be prepared to do the time, like myself have done before in the past and plenty others! Polanski you got caught, man up and do your time now!
Also it’s his word this judge gave that deal, why should we take his word for it? All he has shown us is he gets puberty aged girls drunk and high and then takes advantage of them due to his status in show business! And if caught runs to avoid prosecution!
He’s had 33 years of freedom. So to be treated ‘fairly like everyone else’ is a laugh. ‘Everyone else’ doesn’t rape little girls, and rapists are sent to prison.
Anyone knows whether running away the justice is a punishable crime?
Every article I read about Polanski, including this one, erroneously says Polanski is going to “face charges of unlawful sex with a juvenile”. He isn’t “facing charges”. He is facing sentencing. He’s already plead guilty.
Of course, he’s now saying that at the time of the trial he was basically “conned” into agreeing to plead Guilty. That’s why he wants to be “treated fairly.”
